Sai Baba

Om Sai Ram
I personally haven't and don't.

To be honest, I'm a little skeptical on taking a guru; especially ones where they are worshipped/revered as much as (if not more than) the gods by their followers. I also don't like the idea of putting all of my spiritual trust into another human. I will certainly look into another's teachings for inspiration, but I will not surrender my love for seeking and knowledge to another human.

Sorry if that's a little dramatic, but that is how I feel.

Please do look into Shirdi Baba, he will take your problems away :)

Only a very few gurus suggest you put total trust in them. I would be incredibly cautious.

Please don't talk that garbage on my thread. This is for Baba worshippers not for telling others to be "incredibly cautious". May Baba help you.

I am not a Shirdi Baba devotee, but I did notice that one of the many sister's of my wife has his picture on her personal puja shrine in her home. I know that Shirdi Baba is very popular in India, and here in California about 30 miles from my home is one of his temples. I visited that temple once bringing a Jain with me, but oddly it went bad when the Jain accidently took some water from the offering on the shrine area not knowing they don't allow that and drank the water to show respect. Turned out no big deal, but well...

I remember also going into a side adjunct into a room where some of his devotees were meditating before a murti of the master, but the room was so full of incense smoke (I love incense but literally this was the most smoke a room I have ever seen, literally a thick haze and yellow and obscuring vision) that I started to not have breath and had to leave.

This also didn't help matters, so we basically left the temple after only perhaps 10 minutes. Nothing against the temple however, and the temple is an example of how popular this master is even in California. The crowd in the main shrine area of the temple was a good gathering of probably 20 to 30, mostly Indians but some Westerners.

I might ask the relative about her shrine, since my wife doesn't have any such devotion, her Ishta Lord is Ganesha.

By the way, I heard mention of "drinking soma". I want to know what slecifically was being drunk, since today I suspect the real soma is a mystery and I am wondering.

That was such a nice read, made me happy! :) Thanks for sharing your wonderful experience. Listen to a bit of his wonderful aarti's, they are almost 25 minutes each. Baba has 4 aarti's performed daily by his devotes. Here is one of them:

IMO, there is something special about Sai Baba compared to other famous gurus. Either he is a fraud or an avatar, there is no inbetween. Personally I know by heart its the later, I cant put it any other way.

I was in Shirdi 1996. Amazing to have been there. At the samadhi (tomb) everyone had a flower to place there, I didnt know you should bring it with you. A kind hindu gave me one of his (will never forget that). I also took a beggar with me form Mumbay, to pay back for my possibility to visit the Place. He had long desired to visit it he told me. Baba's fire, sitting stone, staff, shoes etc are still there. The temple was initially built for Krishna, but when Baba died they made it his "samadhi-temple" instead. Back then I was the only westerner there, dont know how it is today. Sai Ram!

Jaya Jagannatha!
Shri Shirdi Sai Baba is said to be the avatara of Aadi-guru Shri Dattatreya, the embodiment of the 3 murthis - Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva!

My mother is a great devotee of Shirdi Sai Baba. I wish one day I can take her to Shirdi, like she wishes. I hope writing this wish of her in another great devotee of Baba's thread will fructify this wish my mother has.

i'm wondering why he would reincarnate if he said that he would be active from his tomb

He cannot do both? On the physical plane he can accomplish different things.

I've many times heard the story that Shirdi Sai Baba announced we would reincarnate in the south.
