Same need for same changes in attitudes and behavior on all sides

Jim

I'm posting this in a debate forum because I don't want to restrict anyone's freedom to say whatever they want to say about it. I don't want anyone to feel inhibited because that might limit the possibilities in this discussion for me, or for other people, if there are any.

This is a message in a bottle, in what might be my last effort to find people here, regardless of what they think about God or religion or science or any other knowledge or belief issues, who have an active, enduring interest in helping to change some attitudes and behavior which are popular on all sides, rather than trying to promote, defend or discredit some ways of thinking.

If some of your efforts to help improve the world or solve its problems are aimed at helping to change some attitudes and behavior which are popular on all sides, rather than promoting, defending, or discrediting some ways of thinking, and if you are continually working on those changes in yourself and in the range of your possible influence, then you might be one of the people I'm looking for.

ETA:

To clarify the last paragraph above, if you see some changes that you think are needed in popular attitudes and behavior on all sides including whatever belief or non-belief groups or categories you identify with, to help improve the world and solve its problems; if some of your efforts to help improve the world or solve its problems are aimed at helping to change those attitudes and behavior, rather than promoting, defending, or discrediting some ways of thinking; and if you are continually working on those changes in yourself and in the range of your possible influence, then you might be one of the people I'm looking for.

Can you give an example or two of what you're looking for and an example or two of what you're trying to avoid?

thanks

Do you think you might be one of the people I'm looking for? Read the last paragraph in the OP again.

I think the best way to acheive this, for me, is to first change all that is found to be conflicting and not helpful, within my own self.

RF is a food platform to assist with this growth.

In doing this, one has to consider what aspects are subject to and do require change and what are not, as they are the core principles of ones existence.

Regards Tony

Do you think you might be one of the people I'm looking for, or do you know of anyone here who might be?

Jim, I would say all have the potential to become a better person.

I found the only person in my life that I can change is me. Most interestingly, even with the best of intentions, It is that change that becomes helpful to some or a hindrance for others.

It is a challenging world we live in.

To clarify the last paragraph above, if you see some unconscious attitudes and behavior that are popular on all sides including whatever belief or non-belief group or category you identify with, that you think need to change, to help improve the world and solve its problems; if some of your efforts to help improve the world or solve its problems are aimed at helping to change those attitudes and behavior, rather than promoting, defending, or discrediting some ways of thinking; and if you are continually working on those changes in yourself and in the range of your possible influence, then you might be one of the people I'm looking for.
My primary goal as a teacher is to increase people's awareness on climatic and ecological damage caused by humans today and inspire students to work on solutions in their future lives. It is something I am personally doing as well, especially in the developing world context where the people and the ecosystems are most vulnerable. I am happy to align with all religious or secular thought or group that seek to raise people's consciousness on this.

Who gets to decide what's the prime directive or directives?

I’m glad for that, and I see a lot of good in it. Thanks for posting!

There is only one person we can truly change in this life and that is ourselves. Having made the essential changes to our character (which are ongoing) the next step is choosing how best to direct our energies. So we need to become the change we wish to see.

On this forum there are probably 20 or so people I’ve had meaningful (in my head at least) conversations with in the last few months. You are one of those people. It’s fair to say that although we’ve clashed and have differing perspectives for me you have been one of the biggest positive influences.

Other than contributing our perspectives to each other’s threads, I’m not sure what else you’re wanting or if anymore is required.

Even though that perfectly fits my description of what I’m looking for, when I first saw it, it didn’t feel like what I was looking for. Now I see that it is, and I would like to have some discussion with you about it, if you’re volunteering for it.

Hello Jim, I do not know if I am one of the people your are looking for, only you can judge what you are looking for. I do feel most people here only want to, discredit others and defend their beliefs. I feel the whole world has gone mad this way, whether it be religion, politics, environment, crime, parenting, or any endless list of things, if you do not believe as 'I' do, it is usually the end of the conversation and getting to know each other.

When I was young and in school, I was taught we were the melting pot of the world and that is what made the US great; all the different ideas cultures and customs. We were to embrace and accept those different ideas as every culture has its strengths and weaknesses. With all the different cultures in the US, one culture would fill in the weakness of another.

I feel we need to accept each other and treat everyone with love and respect. If we do that on a personal level it may help in our personal world. If we can get others to do the same, I feel the world may be just a little better. If we could get world leaders to love and respect each county and its people, I think the world would be a better place. I just do not feel it is possible as there is to much pride in the world. So I can just do what I can do.

Can you give me an outline of what you're doing personally, in the developing world context, about climatic and ecological damage?

Speaking for myself. I avoid lies, even white lies. Sometimes I don't speak my truth (but also don't lie) when it might hurt the other, or I feel the other is not ready to hear it. I avoid judging others, and avoid people who judge. In my life I have seen quite a few remarkable changes in people (and myself) just because of this. I eat vegetarian to avoid unnecessary harming animals and for spiritual sensitivity. My favorite life rules are "Ceiling on desires" + "Hurt Never, Help Ever" + "Love All, Serve All". I am realistic in the sense that I do not expect others to change, but I do my best to change myself. Freedom of Speech/Religion/Change so to speak.

... although we’ve clashed and have differing perspectives
If we didn't have all the same conflicts of ideas and interests in the Baha'i community that there are in the rest of society, or if no one ever saw that that diversity in our ideas and interests, what good would our community be as a model for uniting the world?
... for me you have been one of the biggest positive influences.
That's good to know! Thanks for telling me!

Our latest conversations have felt friendly to me, and I'm glad for what I've learned from them.
Other than contributing our perspectives to each other’s threads, I’m not sure what else you’re wanting or if anymore is required.
I'm not wanting anything more from you, or from anyone else in particular. I've said all I want to say about using the word "homosexuality" in telling people about God's rules for marriage and sex. I'm still looking for someone to talk to who has the same kind of interest I do in working for some changes in popular attitudes and behavior that I think are urgently needed in all of society on all sides, all over the world, to help improve the world and solve its problems. It would need to be someone who is making continual conscious efforts to improve their own attitudes and behavior for those purposes, but whose efforts go beyond that to other ways of working for those changes, within whatever communities they're part of.
