According to a recent statement released by Raif Badawi's family, in exile in Canada:

We have received information from reliable sources that there are attempts within the Penal Court to retry #Raifbadawi on apostasy charges again. Apostasy charge is punishable under Saudi law with the death penalty by beheading.

We also received confirmed information that the Supreme Court has referred Raif case to the same judge, who sentenced Raif with flogging and 10 years imprisonment.

This judge is biased against raif. He has twice requested that Raif be charged with ‘apostasy’. His request was declined at the time on the ground that the penal court has no jurisdiction on cases that lead to death penalty. However, due to a new regulation issued by the Supreme Judicial Council on 19.09.2014, the Penal court has now jurisdiction over major cases, which are punishable by the death penalty, amputation and stoning.

Badawi's wife, Amnesty International and even the City of Montreal are calling upon the Saudi government to release Badawi. When will the US join the chorus?

I guess these people want to show everyone that their god only exists in their mind and the only way to force belief is an executioners blade.

Yes it is a bit weird that Allah/Yahweh requires death for apostasy. Particularly since he plans on torturing apostates for eternity. I guess he wants them earlier rather than later?

USA should stay away from this issue. It doesnt concern them.

Let USA worry about Netanyahu disgracing their leader infront of them.

Did he leave Islam, or only insulted scholars of salafi school?

Still Muslim, according to HRW back in 2013:

The judge dropped the apostasy charge after Badawi affirmed to the court that he is a Muslim and recited the Shehadeh, or Muslim declaration of faith, the lawyer said. The judge also threw out the evidence that Badawi had violated the anti-cybercrime law in comments on social media sites.

Of course, they are pressing for apostasy charges because they don't believe his liberalism is compatible with Islam.

In that case, he cant be executed as he did not leave islam. Maybe the salafis there believes that when a person insult their scholars he committed apostasy.

What if he is not telling the truth? And declares himself an atheist if he is released and goes to Canada?

@gsaseeker I told you many times, in that case he deserves state execution. Iam not gonna hide my belief for you to appease you or others. This is what the islamic law based on quran and hadiths declares about apostates, and it is treason that can only be nullified through repentance. Iam not like those(jews) who hide the law of Moses because of fear for mankind. And they leave the law with which Moses(Peace be upon him) came, to seek a 'better' law(manmade laws).

Fine. You practice your laws & culture. You kill your apostates and what have you. But I will practice mine, and in my law & culture, we execute those who would kill others for thought crimes.

Servant, I appreciate your honesty. It serves my purposes much more than your own after all. But I was asking the hypothetical because I was curious about how sharia deals with people who claim to be Muslim, while holding beliefs incompatible with Islamic law?

We cant look in the hearts of people.

I must say this(apostasy law) is the belief held by followers of the madhabs(sunni madhabs and shia madhab). The truth is there is no earthly punishment for apostasy in qur'an. Followers of Quran(quranites, sect)dont believe in the punishment for apostasy.

Strong evidence that Islam is a violent and primitive ideology that needs to be reformed, marginalized, or done away with.

Sorry if @Lyndon thinks that this is biased.

Apologists for Islamism in the West avoid condemning KSA for its treatment of apostates, gays and women. It disrupts the narrative that Muslims are only oppressed, never oppressive.

Done away with? I think the invasions tried that. It didnt work. More invasions wont work either. You can keep try, it only gets stronger and leads to unity between muslims.

I dont compromise on my beliefs to appease the people of disbelief, weither they are my relatives or friends. Compromising is for the apologists and those whose imaan is weak.
