Scientology

I am a noob. I normally chat on the 7project.com but got bored and found this site.

Does anyone here buy into scientology?? Literally did you pay money to learn about Lord Xenu or did you watch south Park one night when you were stoned?

greetings, welcome to the forums!

our forum was designed and set up to promote religious tolerance, through education. for this reason, we promote the idea that all religions are of equal value to their followers, and should be treated with respect. you may wish to check out the forum rules as well some time soon, just to clarify a few things :)

i personally do not follow Scientology and i have my reasons, but i respect the scientology faith as a valid system of belief.

The origin of Scientology is a bar bet between 2 science fiction authors: Hubbard and Asimov.

I'm sure Asimov (an athiest, btw) had no idea what his joke was going to start.

Welcome!

Apparently the part about not talking in the birthing room is not accurate. It's more like no one should be making loud noises in the birthing room.

Having gone through labor twice, personally I think that's a smart idea. There's enough stress in a labor room as it is -- no need to add more by getting loud.

I am as serious as a heart attack.

I'm a big SF fan and have read lots of history of the genre.

Needless to say, the Church of Scientology would not be interested in spreading this information around. They're not stupid.

As for how other religions came to be, they have histories that can be examined as well. This is a good place to start doing that...that and Wikipedia anyway. :)

How can I not be a fan with someone who has "quack" in his avatar? :)

Wikipedia...online encyclopedia.

Here's the link:

Oh, here's a Wiki link you might want to read about Scientology. See the part about "Origins of Scientology" that has direct quotes from Hubbard.

Have fun!

Wikipedia...online encyclopedia.

www.encyclopediadramatica.com

And there is a website you will want to look at that rips into wikipedia once you understand the concept of the online encyclopedia.

But about scientology, apart from the alien stuff they apparently tell you when you reach a high level in their religion, I don't understand how they can call themselves a religion. I watched a 45 minute DVD at one of their churches in Manchester and all it appeared to be was a psychological theory, not a religion.

At my time in their church they tried to sell me...

Dianetics (twice)
A course ("inexpensively priced at £27" as the nice lady put it)
A couple of other L. Ron books

And then they tried to get my phone number so they could invite me in for lectures.

It was all a good learning experience and I am a better man for it!

Just thought people should know 7project.com doesn't appear to exist. It directs to a page full of pointless links & adverts and misleading information. Joecrawford815 is a spammer.

Hi Joe!

Welcome to Religious Forums.

In answer to your question, personally I don't, but then, there are lots of other things I don't 'buy' into.

I don't know to what extent Tom Cruise represents mainstream scientology thought, but his remarks on the uselessness of seeking help from psychiatrists, clinical psychologists and therapists, struck me as both poorly informed and a disservice to those who suffer from mental and emotional disorders.

No... they actually mean everyone in the room except the mother should be silent during the birth... if have to say something you are supposed to take it outside the birthing area to avoid influencing the newborn to anyone other than the mother and making sure her voice is the first thing it hears :)

I would've hated that. I demanded entertainment from my husband and best friend while I waited for an epidural. Do the Scientologists allow epidurals?

Assuming someone is a spammer after he/she/it posts that they chat on a website that actually turns out to a front for a company associated with cyber squatting, referrer spam and other disturbing things is a chance I'm willing to take.

Joecrawford815 is welcome to explain why I should think otherwise.
