I use ad blockers and if this is the game they want to play, there are plenty of competitors who will take the entire viewer base with a royal middle finger to the greedy ***** and their bat**** crazy CEO.

It's just a test for the moment, but if they go full blown with the three strike rule, my sincerest wish is the entire platform dies the death it deserves so very much with its obnoxious unskippable ads along with it. Put it out of its misery. You Tube deserves it.

There was a time when annoying ads were all but non existent, and it was a great successful video sharing platform.

No more it isn't.

Buh Bye YT and good frikkin riddance forever if implemented systemwide.

Whoo.... end of rant. "0)
Why would YT worry about losing viewers who weren't generating revenue anyway? Besides, I thought you loved capitalism. They're just trying to protect their profits after all.

Hum. Not at all sure about this. It's not like YouTube isn't profitable as it is. Don't you think $8.6bn in a quarter is enough? They already force us to watch ads before many videos, and since I don't think I've ever clicked on some ad that just happened to be on a website in my life, they'll hardly be losing out from my ad-blocker.
If you want a free service, expect to watch ads. I grew up on broadcast television where one was "forced" to watch nearly 10 minutes of ads during a 30 minute program segment.

You're getting a service that costs money to run for free. I don't see what the problem is with watching a few 10 second ads.

Why should we expect these platforms to be free?

Pay the premium fee and get no adds.

Regards Tony
It was free before greedy *** Google bought it. I've been on there since before then and it was better before Google bought it. Google doesn't deserve a dime from anyone. They can't even place the ads in less annoying parts of the video. Why should I give any money to a monstrous corporation that goes out of its way to irritate me?

If they're making you pay for the ads, that's just wrong.

We're already living with that. Now they want to stop us using ad-blockers for displayed ads too (despite vast profits from what they already do).

Then God gave us the video recorder and we could wind through the cursed spawn of Satan. :)

Now that would just make me the idiot, if I were paying for that. YouTube does bombard you with ads, though, in the videos - the beginning, random ones throughout, ads you can't skip, etc. It's more than the other free streaming services hit you with.

The ads generate money for my favorite content creators and the platform itself. I make it a point not to use ad blockers on YouTube for that reason; I want my favorite channels to get money from my views.

I don't see the issue here. I'll still take YouTube over the 10 or 15 minutes of commercials on TV (which I don't use for a reason).

Your definitely in the minority here.

It's not really the money for your creators or even yourself.

It's the way ads are implemented. An unintrusive banner is sufficient like in the past. You don't need unskippable 30 second ads in multiple spots throughout the entire video. Hell they even have creators making ad pitches now in addition to all that on top of it.

It's absolutely insane and I really don't care whenever I use blockers. They are the reason blockers are even used in the first place.

The longest unskippable ads I've encountered were five seconds long (or thereabouts). I'm not sure why they're not doing banners instead, but I suspect that video ads may be more visible to most people.

I was there from the start too.

Google totally destroyed the enjoyment factor and brought in people making really stupid faces on clickbait thumbnails, with ads inserted every 5 minutes back to back with most being unskippable.

It's even to the point where several of my favorite creators even post themselves on YT. They all ran to Twitch which I think will replace YT someday.

Many unskippables are actually 15 to 30 seconds long now. Most are two in a row throughout the entire video now one after another.

How long are the videos with those ads, on average? I think 15 to 30 seconds of ads is okay in, say, a 30-minute video, but they would be more intrusive in a 10-minute one.

I also like using their music player and the movie selection is extensive. For someone who uses their service as much as I do, I feel it's a fair price
They are even preying on premium users now. Low resolution vs higher resolution for a price.

It never ends with these people.

I mean... I have a 4k tv and I can watch 4k videos no problem at the base price. That hasn't been my experience
