And as an aspiring writer I do not want my stories to not pass bechdel test. That said , it is important to see how thise thins happen and why before assing it is discrimination.
For example, remember the movie Brave? i was AMAZING I jumped out of my sit inthe trailers when I heard the female protagonist say "I am competing for my own hand" I pretty much had a good story orgasm right there!
The roles of the females there were pretty cool. But their leading of e story was completely sensic.al from the point of view of the story.
A prince would not have been as good lead protagonist, because the lead protagonist wanted to convey the beauty of nature and freedom at the same time than being ain a role she does not want and being taken for less iher physical prowess which was of the things she most enjoyed. The reason the mother NEEDED to be the one butchering the big bad at the end was to solve the relationship with her daughter and to end up wonderfully the mother daughter relationship that was what the movie had as its back bone.
The characters didnt had an arbitrary gender. They had the perfect gender they needed to have for the story, and it was an amazing story, easily one of my favorites in a GOOD while.
But look at the protagonist, if you notice, most movies at pass the bechdel test and appeal to both male and female audiences have the female in a warrior position. this is NOT bad, but it is rarely what the woman wants to be , while men do love to look at themselves as warriors. So it makes sense that not so many movies of that are made.
I still have to personally experiment with the bechdel test. Time ago
I wanted to do an experiment that I hvent been able to do so far, looking at a fixedumber of movies that would appear randomly and notice if they pass the bechdel and looking other features in them. I have some hypothesis as to why they dont tend to pass them, but I would need to make the tests.
