Should incest be banned?

easy - it should be banned.

And what makes your opinion more worthy of being implemented as law than mine, or anyone's?

why do you want to allow it?

We've been down this road before. We both agree that children born of incest is something that we as a society should be trying to avoid, for obvious biological reasons.

But a law banning the production of children through incestuous relationships would be sufficient to cover that. Banning any kind of incest is excessive, and simply imposes on the freedoms of those who are careful, sterile or gay (or any other situation you can think of where producing children doesn't apply).

we've been down this road too, and banning production of children only would be impossible to enforce.

I seem to remember you saying that we could lock up the parents afterwards perhaps, but what about the children?

and prevention is better than cure surely

Do you 'know' or believe?
I agree, we shouldn't ban having offspring of incestuous unions... but nor should we ban incest.

BTW if your 14-15 year old neighbour is capable of informed consent and does so, then I would not see the harm in it (though you will have to be prepared should your new cell have a room mate; afterall the judicial system is set up to enforce law, not to uphold justice); as for the dog, well... martin your choice of partner's is a little disturbing but hey, if it makes you happy and the dog is a willing participant, sure, drop to all fours and let him mount you; I wont judge.

How would it be impossible to enforce? If someone suspects a child has been produced by incest they report it, and a DNA test will confirm it one way or the other.

They get put into care, as should happen in any case where parents are criminals.

Threatening to lock them up should be sufficient to prevent it, it obviously wont work in all cases but then neither does a blanket ban. The only difference is a blanket ban is unfair to those who either can't have children or take the proper precautions.

I don't need Google - I've been to some of these places and have seen it with my own eyes.

ie: forehead too big, eyes too close together, strange facial features etc.. these are generally synonomous with incest.

so what do you think of the 'like father like son' allegation?

Where did you go to see these things? How did you verify that these traits are the result of incest and no other cause?

tolerance , understanding and love....

so where do you draw the line - what is acceptable and unacceptable love:

if I can love my sister then how about the 14 or 15 year old girl next door?

how about my dog?

You know you've lost when you are reduced to making slippery slope arguments...

Oh, martin, did you forget? We've settled this issue!

Eh, this thread was pointless a long time ago. Why are we still arguing with someone who simply won't change his mind, because he's decided it's gross, and thus should be banned? Pretty much everything nnmartin brings up is countered, and then he just moves to another way to defend it, and at this point, he's literally out of options, and just cycling through the old ones. It's okay guys, we can call this one a win. Based on all that i've read, those for making incest legal have won the argument, because they have countered every single argument nnmartin has put forward. Multiple times. Now, unless someone who is actually willing to bring in some facts to back up his assertions will step forward in defense of incest being wrong, i declare this thread pointless.

very little relevance here.

menstruation and incest - what is the link?

And where do we draw the line between freedom and protecting the public?

If we allow incest then we must also allow many other unspeakable things.

sure, I agree - I've said this a long time ago but there seems to be a hardcore posse that just can't let it go!:clap
