Should pornography be banned?

Using law in an attempt to sanitise society of a perceived immorality such as pornography, only leads to more problems than it's worth. It's authoritarian and criminalises harmless people.

Sure we can.

and do.

You're apparently mistaking preaching for actually obeying the preaching. I can listen to preaching all day long and still do the things the person is preaching against. :)

Imagine how useless said work would be if all that people could invest in is health and community.

It doesn't take that much imagination to find good ways to use our time. Just the inner strength and love for each other this world lacks the most.

Pornography is a poison that destroys families and individuals alike. That industry that preys on people's weakness is based on sex slavery, human trafficking, drug abuse, and child molestation - the porn industry would not exist without these "tools".

The women you find on your porn sites might not be women at all — they could be children — and there’s no way for you to know for sure. Any avid porn customer has most likely at some point been a child porn customer, whether he knew it or not.

When I hear men defending porn I normally ask them, since they find it so great, if they would be OK with their wives and daughters going into the porn industry. Never heard a yes from any of them.

Porn certainly can exist without slavery, kidnapping, drugs & child abuse.
Sure, there is a criminal element in the porn industry, just as there is in
waste disposal, casinos, real estate, religion, music & law firms. Tis crime
which should be attacked, rather than the industries themeselves.

I wouldn't want my daughter to be a Democrat or Republican either,
but this doesn't mean these parties should be made illegal.

And good for you

; however, as we are all aware, others are not so independently minded and will go along with a lot of what comes from the pulpit no matter how intolerant or addle brained it may be.

It's not my decision. It's theirs. Even though I wouldn't like it, that's still not my decision to make. I also like watching COPS, but I wouldn't want my wife or child becoming a criminal either.

Of course you would!

I would. It's not on the top ten list of careers I would want to see them try but it's not at the bottom either. For example, I'd rather them do porn than join the military to pay for college. I'd rather them do porn than work at just about any low wage job. I would support whatever they wanted to do, I'd even help them achieve those goals if they needed it, assuming it's legal of course.

Drunk guys are suggestible and are more likely to get nude.

Which is crossing the line into non-consent. It's like those videos of drunk college girls being taken advantage of at frat parties. There's something very wrong about those videos. Because it's a guy and a lot of gay men have this fantasy of messing around with a straight guy doesn't make it excusable.

I didn't realize people had to make excuses for their fantasies. I certainly won't.
