Singapore: no mask = prison sentence

Singapore does Authoritarianism right though, from what I understand.
I'not sure what that means. But it is a fact that the authorities there are tough if you contravene one of their tidy-minded rules. Anyone choosing to work there, as this fool apparently did, obviously needs to follow the rules, whether he agrees with them or not, or else he'll get chucked out, as he has been.

What I find unsavoury about this case is the colonial echoes it summons up. When this place was a British colony I have no doubt that Brits could strut around breaking the rules they had made for the locals to obey. But today the boot is on the other foot: Brits are there on sufferance. He has paid the price for appalling arrogance and rudeness.

A Briton who was feeling very entitled to do whatever he damn well pleased and not wear a mask is going to prison in Singapore. To which I say GOOD. LOCK HIM UP. I'm past tired of those who think the law does not apply to them and they can do whatever they like no matter what the consequences.

Singapore sentences Briton to six weeks in prison for not wearing face mask

A Singapore court sentenced a British man to six weeks in prison on Wednesday, local media reported, after he repeatedly breached coronavirus protocols by refusing to wear a face mask in public.

Benjamin Glynn, 40, was found guilty on four charges over his failure to wear a mask on a train in May and at a subsequent court appearance in July, as well as causing a public nuisance and using threatening words towards public servants.

Glynn was earlier subjected to a psychiatric assessment ordered by the judge as a result of his conduct and remarks in court.

On Wednesday he asked the court to drop what he called "unlawful charges" and asked for his passport to be returned so that he could go back to Britain to be with his family, according to media outlet CNA.

It quoted the judge as telling Glynn that he was "completely misguided" in is belief that he was exempt from Singapore's laws on wearing masks.
In Singapore it is illegal to perform homosexual acts. That is enough to discredit any law they might have.

Apparently "liberals" do not believe in liberty anymore.

Liberals believe in liberty and the Constitution.
Conservatives wrap themselves in the flag and support the liberty to agree with their views.

They never did believe in liberty at the start.

Yeah. They just didn't push back hard enough on those who wanted to continue to take away liberties from women and blacks.

People claiming to be liberals but cheering on locking people up for not wearing a mask, obviously.

We support your right to not wear a mask - just not in public places where you will infect more people and continue the spread of the disease.

Not all laws are moral or should be obeyed. Any traditional conservative could tell you that the law is not the arbiter of morality.

Is that why conservatives fought so hard to restrict the voting rights of blacks? Is that why conservatives fight so hard to restrict the voting rights of blacks? Because black people voting is immoral? Ditto women's rights.

In my opinion these two "causing a public nuisance and using threatening words towards public servants" had more to do with him going to jail than not wearing a mask.
Threatening is a form of assault.
