There's more money to be made, Q, in keeping pot illegal. Do you work for the government hmmmm? :p

So, today is International Worship a Plant Day.

Personally, I'm against the use and legalisation of Marijuana beyond regulated medical applications.

What are the thoughts of others?
Hemp is a fine fiber. That is the extent of its constructive use, IMO.

We would be much better off decriminalizing and regulating just about every vice that you can think of.

I wish I understood why people think so. If anything, I feel the opposite. People are far too self-indulgent and have way too many avenues open to be that way.

I don't believe in throwing users in jail. I do believe that pot can have medical uses when prescribed by a doctor for a specific clinical condition.

My attitude to "recreational" use is colored by my experience when young where I almost gave up everything for pot and my goal in life became to smoke dope, watch TV and eat. The negative affects of alcohol on the body are obvious. The negative affects of marijuana are more subtle and more easily dismissed for a while but become more obvious with longer term use and with heavier use.

We are made of chemistry.
We should explore what we are.

No one should get in the way.

of course a mentor here and there would be nice.
I suspect experimentation without guidance is the everyday event.

The thing with cannabis, and this is mostly in the younger population, is that it's a gateway drug. 'Oh you liked that, huh? Why don't you try this?' Before you know it, cannabis is a thing of the past and cocaine or heroine is the new drug of choice.

BS. There is no designated gateway drug. The gateways we should be talking about, stand before the consumption of these respective drugs.

I use to smoke a lot of pot, but over the years I started to get very depressed on it, I would be depressed for about three days afterwards. I started to hear voices, and not long after this I was diagnosed with schizophrenia, so no more of that crap for me.

Depression was one of my symptoms as well. Other symptoms included loss of judgement, bursts of rage, loss of ambition, inability to think clearly, inability to easily put thoughts into words, distortion of sense of time, more difficulty dealing with people and paranoia. Physical effects were limited primarily to bronchitis.

Yea I believe that, yes its not as good as most believe it to be, the problem is we all stick up for our poison and defend it no matter what it is

I think that's because, at least in part, pot-smoking/that culture becomes a part of their identity, and when we suggest ideas against Marijuana, we threaten that part of their identity. Sad, but true.

I'm for the legalisation of drugs.
What I am against is the recreational consumption of drugs: it's a degenerate activity spurred on by the "I'm cool" vibe or peer pressure.

But I still believe in the utmost autonomy for every individual.

This has been thoroughly debunked. What makes this seem like it is happening is because drug dealers usually do not deal in just pot. There are many that do, but many don't. This exposes people to other drugs, and it is this exposure that makes people more likely to use other drugs.
And there is no comparing marijuana, cocaine, and heroine in such a manner. They are three different drugs, derived from three different sources, and they have three different effects.

I think that the world is far too big and interesting, and life far too short to be sat around smoking a plant.
Using it doesn't mean you just sit around all day doing nothing. It doesn't mean you use it all day.

Maybe with teens, but adults tend to use drugs without any thought of it making them cool. And, of course, many use them out of enjoyment.
