I don't know how to answer your questions because I don't know what is truth. I know that when I drop something , the truth is that it goes down and not up, because that is an easy observation to make. I'm just not sure with religious beliefs. I guess that's why it's called faith. It disgusts me that God insists everyone accepts the truth with faith.

Let me ask. Do you believe god exists in general?

I mean, when I was young, I know my mother exist and she was mad at me a lot of times as I was upset with her. If she didn't exist (say if I was adopted), I have no reason to be mad nor happy for my mother. Even if her siblings (my aunts and uncles) wrote about her lifestory and put it together in a album, I can't be mad at someone that doesn't exist to me.

She would have to have some sort of existence for me to have some feelings for or against her.

If you still believe in a god (whichever), maybe a faith-based religion doesn't work to help you mentally and physically. Maybe a deed-based god religion can help you see the results of what god is doing for you. Maybe a mythological god-based religion can help you see god through lessons and legends rather than historical chronological events. Maybe believing in god is enough and maybe change the name to reflect how you define the god you know not the god others want you to know.

What makes sense to you.

Unless god exists to you, how can he be disgusted with you?

I think a "one true faith" is an absurdity. Much like saying there's a "one true shoe size", or a "one true hand tool". To me, it seems to be a notion invented by clergy people to dupe folks into adhering to whatever religion they (the clergy) want them to adhere to. Either that, or it was invented in a lunatic asylum.

I declare...there is but ONE TRUE HAND TOOL!!

That made me laugh. :D But, well said.

Why would you think he is disgusted with you?

Forget about christians and the bible if you can.
I'm just a disgusting creature. I think being human is disgusting, that's why I jumped off a building, I wanted to be a spirit. I didn't want body odor, bowel movements, sexuality, or a body anymore. A body is too needy, gets sick, falls apart, I want to be free from it!

It is actually me who is disgusted with God.

But I too feel like filthy swine at times. I'm trying to change my attitude though. I can't love others if I feel that way about myself.

I don't always feel that way... just when I'm really depressed... which is about 1/4 of the time.

Well if you believe in God, then you believe he created you in his image.

You're not disgusting. It's okay to go through rough times, and just accept that you're going through a tough time but you'll make it through. Tough times don't mean you are disgusting. :glomp:

Does anyone else here feel like they aren't smart enough to choose the true faith, were one to exist?

There are thousands of Religions that claim to be true. They can't all be. Maybe all of them have some truth and some falsehood?

What is true cannot be observed until visible images appear within the mind. Without those visible images, God and Man would not understand how they were created.

I don't see Christianity as a religion, but rather, a relationship. It is a personal relationship with our Savior. It is common today to believe in Oprah'esque "all roads lead to God." I think that is most prevalent idolatry is the statement...the way "I" see God is...."

One must look to how God has revealed himself through scripture...if you cringe at the thought of reading the Bible...read C.S. Lewis "Mere Christianity" he distills our human nature and Natural Law into its basics to help lead one to the way....

I think that part of your feelings too Pope, come from looking at what others ''expect'' of you, and the world ''expects'' of you. It is okay to just do you...and just keep working on you. We all have flaws, we all get down, and honestly, there's nothing wrong with getting down. In down times, we can find a lot of energy there, spiritual energy. You are gonna make it. And you have RF, what more could you need??? :D

Yes, you are correct... I'm always focused on what others think...not only that but I tend to focus on the negative...for instance, I can receive ten compliments and one insult, and the voice I listen to is the insult.

Fortunately, almost all the insults I received was because of who I am on drugs. I have to recognize that isn't me and stay sober no matter what!

Anyway, it's great to have RF and have your friendship! :D

You're not alone. I listen to insults easier than compliments, too. Maybe it's human nature. You are a good person, and I think that staying sober is hard right now, because when you used to have these thoughts, you'd run to get high. Now you have to get through these tough thoughts, sober. It can be hard to not escape into something else when we're hurting.

Yeah... I just think of all the pain and humiliation drugs caused and what it was like in a wheelchair and not being able to urinate cuz of scar tissue in my urethra... and that is enough to keep me off drugs and NEVER ever attempt suicide again!!

A man arrives at the gates of heaven.

St. Peter asks, "Religion?"

The man says, Episcopalian."

St. Peter looks down his list, and says, "Go to room 24. But be very quiet as you pass room 8."

Another man arrives at the gates of heaven.

"Religion?"

"Baptist."

Go to room 18. But be very quiet as you pass room 8.

A third man arrives at the gates.

"Religion?"

"Jewish."

Go to room 11. But be very quiet as you pass room 8.

The man says, "I can understand there being different rooms for different religions, but why do I have to be quiet when I pass room 8?"

St. Peter shrugs, "Well the Catholics are in room 8, and they think they're the only ones here."

I didn't vote, but truth is subjective and whatever you find true is unique to you.

I learn from all Religions, they don't have to be true. I just have a Muslim friend who is really pressuring me to accept Muhammad as the final prophet , and Protestants pressuring me to stop praying to the deceased.

I just don't know who to listen to
Listen to yourself. Don't let people pressure you.
