So what about hell?

Faith-confidence in what we hope for (Hebrews 11)
Recent discussions make me wonder what various persons believe about hell (or hellfire). Do you think a loving person would literally torture anyone forever as some would believe about hell (or hellfire)? (also for @Trailblazer )

I do not believe that God tortures anyone forever as some would believe about hell (or hellfire).

Yes.

The people who inflict suffering on others often don't view themselves as bad actors. They believe they're doing the right thing. Or they are amoral actors, or actors whose standards are relatively alien to the human priorities and values.

That said, those kinds of ideas (hells) are not part of my religion.

Usually people view those who inflict torture on others as bad. And I cannot imagine they are loving to that person.

In my opinion it's a reward/punishment system created by humans to control the population. Do as I say, obey my laws, pay your taxes, fight my wars and you get to go to heaven and live in paradise for eternity or don't and go to hell and be tortured for eternity.

Since when we die, we have no mortal body any more, there's no physical pain.
There can be spiritual suffering.

Is that torture? I don't think so.

It's also a misinterpretation of the Bible and a distortion of God's ways. You're right in that various segments of society control life as it exists in various parts of the world, and the justice system can be different.

No, I don't believe in hell.
I also don't believe God makes people suffer in the afterlife even for a short while.

To me suffering is a product of the imperfect nature of the material universe.
In my opinion.

When we're dead, according to the bible despite what some misinterpreted, we're dead. Not alive. We don't think or feel. That is why God promises a resurrection. It's ridiculous to think that we're somewhat alive when we're dead. He doesn't torture anyone in hell.

Oh ok ty for your answer. God put Adam and Eve in a beautiful garden. To begin with. I don't know about you, but when I was younger I loved being in the outdoors with trees, streams and so forth.

The bible is interpreted thousands of ways and everyone thinks they have the special esoteric knowledge to interpret it correctly.

So you are a Christian but don't believe in the soul?

^^^This^^^

Also i will add, today's picture of hell is little to do with the bible and much to do with the works of Hieronymus Bosch and Dante Alighieri

"obey my laws(mans), pay your taxes, fight my wars and you get to go to heaven"

IMO none of them grant any passage to heaven if heaven exits.
