Daily Mail reports:

A soldier waterboarded his four-year-old daughter because she was unable to recite her alphabet.

Joshua Tabor admitted to police he had used the CIA torture technique because he was so angry.

As his daughter 'squirmed' to get away, Tabor said he submerged her face three or four times until the water was lapping around her forehead and jawline.

Tabor, 27, who had won custody of his daughter only four weeks earlier, admitted choosing the punishment because the girl was terrified of water.

Water boarding.. effective tool for education amongst toddlers?

He's obviously very mentally disturbed. I don't think anyone would argue waterboarding is appropriate punishment for a child.

Yeah, I'd have to agree. From the article:

Tabor, a soldier at the Lewis-McChord base in Tacoma, Washington, was arrested after being seen walking around his neighbourhood wearing a Kevlar military helmet and threatening to break windows.

Military service doesn't disturb people, but some of the things they see and experience while in service can disturb them. I think people react to it in different ways. My great-grandfather fought in three wars and couldn't even watch a gangster, western, or war movie. He had an aversion to German and Japanese people. He had nightmares. War affects people, certainly, and the military needs to do a better job of screening for the crazies.

Done here.
Military service doesn't disturb people, but some of the things they see and experience while in service can disturb them.
That amounts to the same thing, doesn't it?

I know people who are seriously messed up because of things they've seen -- and done -- in wartime.

Not really. Someone who never goes overseas while in the military isn't likely to suffer emotional trauma, nor is someone who serves in a time of peace. My Dad spent six years in the Navy and is no worse for the wear. Best six years of his life.

I think wartime is the key, not military service.
But still, not every war veteran is going to come home and abuse his daughter. People react differently.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
I am not even sure that wartime experiences permanently "disturb" everyone. My dad served in combat in Vietnam for 7 years and he's not at all "disturbed." In fact, he regrets getting out and looks back on his military service as a great time in his life overall.

My oldest son served in an infantry unit in Iraq for 18 months, and knew many soldiers who lost their lives or were badly injured. He was pretty shaken up by some of his experiences over there and for awhile after he got back, he took some meds to help him sleep. He has recovered from his post traumatic stress disorder and is still serving in the US Army and is about to re enlist.

He's not "disturbed" - he's just human, and some things are pretty shocking to experience and assimilate. But he's doing great, and will probably go back to the Middle East sometime in the next year. He's fine with that - better with it than I am, in fact. It's his job, he considers it his duty, and he's willing to serve.

Well it doesn't say if he fought in a war or not...

"Police have not revealed Tabor's military service, but his base is home to units that have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Tabor has been charged with assault and ordered to remain on his base and have no contact with his daughter or girlfriend, who has not been named. He is due to appear in court this week."

So we don't know if he has even been in military service. So if he hasn't.. did service make him crazy or was he already crazy?

I knew a guy whom I worked with, who joined the military and at boot camp, the general spit into his face and caught laryngitis. I would argue that was probably emotional traumatic for him, though it may not seem like much in comparison to war.

Thank you! My experience has shown me that people can crack under all kinds of pressure while others can retain perfectly under the same ones.

It goes without saying that is the last time he will be near his kid again. Criminal negligence, child endangerment, attempted murder, assault and battery, just to name a few.

The military can do it, but he can't. Simple as Sarah Palin.

Haha.. it's pretty ******* bad.

To kill or abuse your kid is one thing.

To torture them? That's just ******* insane.

Ha, He had good intentions! :angel2:
Yeah, I guess you are right, this must be the best educational method ever, since it means the kids will be to scared to not do as you say... sure they will develop deep emotional scars, but that they can remember the alphabet at age 4 is more important.

:p

Imagine the possibilities. Kids could learn multiple alphabets in the name of not suffering!
