Kathryn, that's a touching pic you posted. :flower:

And I understand why they read your letter at their son's funeral. I would have done the same thing.

Regarding your final point, I think that is true with most anything traumatic for survivors. These events do not define us or our worth, but it is so important to as you say assimilate them into our perspective of how we have changed. I am very VERY happy to hear that your son got the help he needed. :)

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Well, you know, he tried to go without getting any help, but I am glad to say that within a few months he realized he would have to seek professional advice, which he did. He's much better now - they gave him some meds for sleep disturbances, and now he rarely even has to take them. For awhile, he had nightmares every night.

Daily Mail reports:

A soldier waterboarded his four-year-old daughter because she was unable to recite her alphabet.

Joshua Tabor admitted to police he had used the CIA torture technique because he was so angry.

As his daughter 'squirmed' to get away, Tabor said he submerged her face three or four times until the water was lapping around her forehead and jawline.

Tabor, 27, who had won custody of his daughter only four weeks earlier, admitted choosing the punishment because the girl was terrified of water.

Water boarding.. effective tool for education amongst toddlers?

This is one of the reasons why GITMO and torture shouldn't exist.

It could be a combination of both.

Well, it's of my opinion that everyone is mentally 'disturbed' in some way or another, and things like the military, amongst hundreds of other things, serve as triggers to deteriorate the brain's seeming composure.

Some people it affects negatively - others are affected positively.

Personally, if I had to do data entry all day long, I would go crazy and probably twist off on a rampage!

Everyone's different (duh!). I know that military service has positively impacted three of my children (the fourth isn't in the military) and they all plan on making the military a career. (By the way, each of them has already served a tour in the middle east - so they've seen real combat time.)
