"Some Feminists are Man-Haters"

The Gender pay gap is like the feminist equivalent of the God of the gaps argument. "Women get paid x percent of what Men get paid, therefore sexism." If there is a wage gap, then we need to figure out the cause, not just assume it's due to sexism.

Research into the various interpersonal, educational, socio-economic factors that best correlate with the gap has been conducted since the 1960s. At the very least.

You should read some.

You say it's a joke ... but everybody knows feminists are actually intergalactic mantis people in disguise.

Ah good point. But perhaps I'm too biased to see my own reflection in the mirror and witness the mantis staring back at me. I need to read tumblr more often and repent to the haters here so I may earn my humanity back.

No it's because I am a woman why they call me these things. Do you think they would call a man a ****? A *****? A ****? A whore? No. They don't. Loser isn't a sexual slur. It's used with women too. And same with scrub though that one I rarely see myself. Those example's you used don't have a history of telling women to shut up. They use those words because they KNOW I'm a woman and they called me that because they didn't like what I was saying because I was a woman saying those things. If they thought I was a man they wouldn't have called me those names.

So what if the slurs aren't sexual? Does it make it special if it is sexual? What about when it is racial? Ethnic? There are terrible people out there in the world and they will use whatever they can put their "opponent" down. Perhaps if I those same people disagreed with me and they knew a was a black man in Africa they might call me a monkey or some other thing. They will use anything they think will hurt most - that is the purpose of an insult.

I frequent a particular soccer website here in South Africa. The comments made are good for laughs but they can often turn nasty.
The point being, you're not being given special attention because you're a woman. Your opponents are using what they think is the best insults they can come up with. Some women will use a man having a small p**** to demean him. Others that he is a "minute-man" in reference to bedroom stamina. Now those lines of attack can't very well be used against a woman. And so it is that there will always be some different line of attack that can be considered effective depending on the sex, race, nationality, religion etc.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately they both appear to be hidden behind pay walls and my university doesn't have either in the library :/

You're welcome. The links I believe show what has cited them as sources for various articles.

Not in the US, men absolutely cannot just walk away from an unwanted pregnancy, that privilege belongs solely to women. Sometimes even when the woman decides not force child support, the courts will.

It completely supported my statement that the CDC doesn't even recognize as rape female-on-male, but it has nothing to do with anything you said so I don't see why you felt the need to pull random quotes from it.

You still believe women are disadvantaged in the justice system?
https://www.law.umich.edu/newsandinfo/features/Pages/starr_gender_disparities.aspx
"After controlling for the arrest offense, criminal history, and other prior characteristics, "men receive 63% longer sentences on average than women do," and "[w]omen are…twice as likely to avoid incarceration if convicted." This gender gap is about six times as large as the racial disparity"
Look at that, the justice system is sexist, towards men, than it is racist.

That's how criminal trials work. It's the same for murder, robbery, whatever. The first thing the defense tries to do is attack the character and credibility of any witnesses or accusers. If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

Um, ok. That's completely random and doesn't appear to be relevant at all, but sure.

Are you sure that's the argument you want to go with? Because women have consistently out voted men in the US since the early 80s, so I could say if you don't like rich white men trying to keep you in the kitchen then quit putting them in office, but I don't have your it's-your-mess-you-clean-it-up attitude. I care about women's rights as well as my own, and feel fighting for everyone's rights is everyone's responsibilty, and an attack on someone else's rights is an attack on my own.

Again, you only pay child support if the woman takes any sort of legal action for you to do so. Other wise what do you lose? And that's your complaint? Not paying for a child you helped to create? Seriously? That's it? And here I always thought you right wingers were supposed to be for personal responsibility. I guess it's for everyone else and not you. When do Courts take action when the woman doesn't? Those cases aren't on the regular basis.

Lol the Center for Disease Control? Really? And maybe to show you that you're ignorant is why I pulled those quotes? To show you're trying to play up male rape more than what is known? Men don't report rape enough for it to be known. I think you missed that.

And yes women are disadvantaged in the justice system. Just because you refuse to acknowledge it doesn't make it any less true.

As far as you quoting this professor funny how you left this out of your quote-

< Prof. Starr emphasized that it is not possible to "prove" gender discrimination with data like hers, because it is always possible that two seemingly similar cases could differ in ways not captured by the data. Given the size of the apparent gender gap and the richness of the dataset (which allowed many alternative explanations to be explored), however, Starr believes that there is "pretty good reason to suspect that disparate treatment may be one of the causes of this gap." >

Oops. I guess you should have better read everything instead of jumping the gun to prove poor men woe is you.

It's specifically because I'm a woman and these slurs have specific history's of being used because you're a woman to shut you up. When it's racial it's history of racism to shut people up. They know I'm a woman and call me a ****. They call me a *****. They're not going to call a man those words. Same thing with words and racism. It's really not that hard. Those instances don't have a history of disenfranchising you and your power and your sexuality as a male. You're still with more power in the structure of society.

You say it's a joke ... but everybody knows feminists are actually intergalactic mantis people in disguise.

Why else do you think makeup was invented?

You're missing the point. A person who attacks you on the internet is not a gender studies or history expert. He is not using the words he's using because he's thinking about the history. He is using whatever he feels is in his disposal to ridicule you.

When I was in primary school they used to call me lips. They did so because I have bigger lips than usual. Would they have used the same words against someone with small lips? Of course not. They used it specifically against me because they thought it would be effective.

And that is the whole gist of the matter: LittlePinky, you're a woman. When people don't agree with your argument, some of them will call you names they believe will hurt you as a woman. They're not going to call you a minute-girl, or a loser, scrub or whatever. They are going to call names that are specific to you and who and what you are. This is not peculiar, strange or out of the ordinary. It is expected. It is wrong to be sure, but expected nonetheless.

You're still with more power in the structure of society.

I'm a black man. And I can bet my right hand that if I were American with the black to white wage gap of 58%, the high incarceration rate of blacks, their harassment by police, disproportionate sentencing for both being a man and being black (though I shouldn't be committing crime in the first place :)) much shorter life expectancy etc etc; I'm quite sure you're have much more power than me in the structure of soceity

Nope doesn't matter. They go straight for the slurs of your gender. Now gee I wonder why they do that? They call me a loser too lol. They just first go for the gender slurs. Then when those don't work they go for the ones like loser. And why do you think it's expected? Hmm I wonder why.

You're still a male. You're higher than your female counter parts in the same race. Women of color have it even worse.

On edit the issues with white and black are definitely there and why activism like BLM is important to bring it out to the public eye. People don't know it's there unless you're somehow directly effected by things or know someone who is etc. Other wise the media doesn't talk about it and you have to know where the conversations are happening. The US has a long history of racism and it hasn't gotten any better over the yrs. Since you're a black male and not in the US I would suggest to stay out until things change. Look at all the mass shootings that have happened last year. Like gd. And yes as a white person I do have more in respect with that. We still have our own issues ("we" as in white women) but yes I have more privilege being white compared to my counter parts in other races and that's a huge issue.

It's expected because you it is logical to go after the thing you think will hurt someone the most when you intend to insult them.

You're still a male. You're higher than your female counter parts in the same race. Women of color have it even worse.

I am not higher than my female counter parts. The disparate sentencing, shorter life expectancy, poorer outcomes in school - with women having far more female role models in schools, fatherless / broken homes (shown to negatively affect men more than women), my 4 times likelihood to be killed, my far greater likelihood to commit suicide etc etc: I'm quite sure I have my fair share of issues. That said I am not of the opinion black men have it worse than black women in my country or yours. I'm just of the opinion that they don't have it significantly better when you look at it from all angles.

You also have more privilege being a white women than a black or hispanic man.

That said, in South Africa the pay ratio by race is 17%. That is black household's as a whole earn 17% of what white household's earn (it must be said there is also a greater unemployment rate amongst black people). I can say without doubt that the biggest issue by far in my country is racial inequality rather than gender inequality. But even then while such needs to mentioned I am of the opinion we'll go further as a country if we actually look at the even bigger inequality that exists between 1% and the rest. Indeed I feel the very structure of our economies that are designed to enrich the few will leaving the rest to fight for the scraps (and encouraging them to fight so that we forget about the few) needs to be questioned and overhauled.

You're missing the point. They go directly towards the slurs with your gender because they think it has power to do something. Now why do you think that is?

And you have more privilege being a black man than a black woman. Just like a white man has more privilege than me as a white woman. We're all somewhere on the pole with privilege. Just where are you and how afar apart are you from the person who is above and below you?

Well I'm sorry to say I don't know much about what's going on in South Africa so I'm not going to speak on that issue. Although fun fact my dr is from South Africa lol.

On edit your last point is definitely true. The rest of us are fighting for scraps and that's why we do get into the issues with privilege. If we did scrap our structures we might not be having the same arguments and could work on bringing everyone up.

I've already told you why: because you're a woman.

And you have more privilege being a black man than a black woman. Just like a white man has more privilege than me as a white woman. We're all somewhere on the pole with privilege. Just where are you and how afar apart are you from the person who is above and below you?

No I don't. I have different privileges than my females counterparts. They have theirs and I have mine.

Good to know. You should read up about us sometime.

Yes, and because women speak up about the issues that concern us we get those slurs and told to shut up. And this doesn't have the same history with men. It happens in all backgrounds.

No, you have more privileges being a black man than a black woman most definitely. Just like white men have more privileges than me as a white woman. We're probably not going to agree and I don't do circle jerking anymore so we'll just agree to disagree instead of going round and round. Just because you have different issues doesn't mean you don't have more privilege than your female counter parts.

Perhaps. I just really don't have anything come up with South Africa much to do so honestly speaking. Sometimes it's hard enough to keep up with all the **** here. :weary:
