I didn't say I liked them. I said there was one thing I liked about them.
Fred Phelps is a psycho and all his children were abused and brutalized, which helps to explain why most of them are so screwed up. It wouldn't be surprising if the cycle is being perpetuated at the expense of the grandchildren.

They pretty much have to, since people hate them so much they need police protection. But they want angry counter-protesters. They enjoy the hatred. In the case of Fred and his daughter Shirley, it seems to be the one thing more than all others that makes them feel alive. It's tragic, really, to see what happens to a person who gives himself over so completely to hatred.

They are up front in your face honest with their bigotry, homophobia, etc.
Not like those who preach to millions how gays are sinful ******** headed straight for hell then leave the church for some hot homosexual action while high on drugs.

If anything the one thing to like about them is that they will turn millions religious conservatives off of homophobia. This is because while religious conservatives tend to be homophobes, they are also very patriotic. The anti-American bile that spews from Fred Phelps' mouth will only serve to alienate those religious conservatives and make homophobia look ridiculous and stupid.

I will accept that they at least are the honest enemy.
I also like that the main members are aging. I am currently working on a plan for a block party when FP dies. 'Course I plan to have that party when Robertson goes too, so which ever kicks it first gets the party.
At least one of his sons has escaped and did a rather candid interview not too long ago. There I believe was also a journalist that managed to embed with them for some time. I will try to find the links.
