She was the pride of the summer that year
She was my sweetheart, my lady
We walked to Black Rock, and stopped by the loch
It's good to be young and daring

She was the pride of the summer that year
She was my sweetheart, my lady
We walked to Black Rock, and stopped by the loch
It's good to be young and daring
It was summer of '69
Me and some guys from school
Had a Band and we tried real hard
Jimmy quit and Jody got married
I shoulda known we'd never get far

Glory days well they'll pass you by
Glory days in the wink of a young girl's eye
Glory days, glory days

I hate to ruin the magic. I hate to kill the dream... but once you've been behind the scenes, then you'll know just what I mean.

You might think that's its cool to get up on stage and play rock and roll from your heart and soul, but no one shows up, and your songs all suck, and there's no applause and no flying bras. No girls will scream for you and no one's gonna sing along with you. Don't start a band. Nobody wants to hear.

Nobody wants to hear. Nobody understands. Don't start a band. You'll be so disappointed that it was nothing like you planned.

Don't start a band.

When we were young the future was so bright
The old neighborhood was so alive
And every kid on the whole damn street
was gonna make it big in every beat.

Now the neighborhood's cracked and torn
The kids are grown up but their lives are worn
How can one little street
Swallow so many lives?

Chances thrown, nothing's free
Longing for, used to be
Still it's hard, hard to see
Fragile lives, shattered dream

Fragile lives, shattered dream
Everybody knows the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor
The rich get rich
Thats how it goes
and Everybody knows

Winnin' with a losin' hand.....

"But I think I'll give you one more chance"
said the Devil with a smile,
"So throw away that stupid lance,
It's really not your style",
Joker is the name, Poker is the game,
we'll play right here on this bed,
And then we'll bet for the biggest stakes yet,
the souls of the dead!!"

And I said "Look out, Lord, he's going to win,
The sun is down and the night is riding in,
That train is dead on time, many souls are on the line,
Oh Lord, he's going to win!.."

Well the railwayman he cut the cards
and he dealt them each a hand of five
And for the Lord he was praying hard
or that train he'd have to drive...
Well the Devil he had three aces and a king,
and the Lord, he was running for a straight,
he had the queen and the knave and the nine and ten of spades,
All he needed was the eight...

And then the Lord he called for one more card,
but he drew the diamond eight,
And the Devil said to the son of God,
"I believe you've got it straight,
So deal me one for the time has come
to see who'll be the king of this place,
But as he spoke, from beneath his cloak,
he slipped another ace...

And I'd give up forever to touch you,
Cause I know that you feel me somehow.
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be,
And I don't want to go home right now.

And all I can taste is this moment,
And all I can breathe is your life,
And sooner or later it's over,
I just don't want to miss you tonight.

And I don't want the world to see me,
Cause I don't think that they'd understand.
When everything's made to be broken,
I just want you to know who I am.

Cause I'm a picker
I'm a grinner
I'm a lover
And I'm a sinner
I play my music in the sun

I'm a joker
I'm a smoker
I'm a midnight toker
I sure don't want to hurt no one

I'm the urban spaceman, baby, I've got speed,
I've got everything I need.
I'm the urban spaceman, baby, I could fly,
I'm a supersonic guy
I don't need pleasure, I don't feel pain,
If you were to knock me down, I'd just get up again
I'm the urban spaceman, baby, I'm making out,
I'm all about

I wake up every morning with a smile upon my face
My natural exuberance spills out all over the place
I'm the urban spaceman, I'm intelligent and clean,
Know what I mean?

I'm the urban spaceman, as a lover second to none,
It's a lot of fun
I never let my friends down, I've never made a boob
I'm a glossy magazine, an advert on the tube
I'm the urban spaceman, baby, here comes the twist
I don't exist.

Spaceman, oh spaceman
Come rescue me from this
Calling all aliens
Come rescue me
In your mind you have capacities you know
To telepath messages through the vast unknown
Please close your eyes and concentrate
With every thought you think
Upon the recitation we're about to sing

Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary, most extraordinary craft

Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary, most extraordinary craft

We climbed aboard their starship, we headed for the skies
Come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me lads

Oh, the year was seventeen seventy-eight... oh, I wish I was in Sherbrooke now!

A letter of marque came from the King to the scummiest vessel I'd ever seen. God damn them all! I was told we'd cruise the seas for American gold. We'd fire no guns, shed no tears... now I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier, the last of Barrett's privateers.

Don't haul on the ropes
Don't climb up the mast
If you see a sailin' ship, it might be your last
Just get your civvies a'ready
For another round ashore
A sailor ain't a sailor ain't a sailor anymore
