Sourdough Bread

Are there any bread bakers here? :D Sourdough keepers?

I just started a brand new sourdough starter. It's been three days and I've already got activity. My batch is already starting to bubble and produce hooch. Not much for aroma yet but I'm very hopeful.

I'm starting it with a 1 c flour and a 1 c of warm water. I feed it every day after tossing half of it out with a 1/2 c flour and a 1/2 c of warm water.
I've got two batches so far and I'm hopeing I can get a great starter going.

I've done this once before and I have a starter that was great for flavour but was a little flat with the rise. So I'm still fairly new at this.

So anyone else every try out sourdough?
Anyone wants to try with me??

I haven't yet, but I;d like to.

However, I suppose it's not really bread-making if you use a bread maker. I'm a yuppie bread maker.

Well I got the starter going good and I made a few loaves of it. So showing off pics here. First two are of a free form loaf and the last one is a loaf in pan before baking.

MaddLlama, I think sourdough can be done with a bread machine. I know I've seen a few sites touch on that. But anyone who bakes bread in this day in age is doing something that most folks don't do anymore. I don't worry about how a person cooks their bread, just if they make their bread. Besides from what I seen and read, useing a breadmaker is an art form in and of itself.

Mmm...that looks delicious! I've never tried sourdough bread but I think I'm going to have to now. Have you ever done Amish friendship bread?

I still haven't tried the Amish freindship bread. I am working with a few loafs that take milk and sugar but no where near the amount found in the Amish loaves. It really cuts down on the sour flavor. I've got a few friends that just don't get sourdough. lol I had to find someway to feed them anyway. It's all about supply and demand.

But I'm having a blast doing a daily baking. So much fun getting my hands dirty for food and good food at that. I just can't believe my luck...that the starter works and I've got it working well enought to get rise out of the bread. Yea me!!
