Will vote once I've seen DS9, as I've only seen the pilot.

For now, I loved TNG, really liked the good episodes of TOS, I don't like Voyager much, and Enterprise... no. Just, no.

Ok, now you do recognize that the source is Cracked.com right? And that they are making fun right? While their suggestions on what goes on behind the scenes in Star Trek society are humorous they certainly are not what was intended by the creators and writers.

Battlestar Galactica, at least the one mentioned earlier, is the recent remake and is a spectacular piece of science fiction, (the 70s version was tripe IMHO). It isn't dsytopic either, its post-apocalyptic and more realistic than Star Trek, also IMHO. The entire series is on Hulu plus.

Granted that it is a comedy site, but they do make some valid points.

I'd say that another thing that has always bothered me a bit about the Star Trek future is the ban on genetic engineering in Star Trek. I know that WWIII was fought over that in their past, but it seems they could cure a lot of diseases and advance medical science considerably with their technology if they were willing to face their fears.

Star Trek tends to gloss over things like that. Roddenberry didn't like genetic engineering so it became something that mankind overcame in its past. Ok to be mentioned but not looked into in depth. Star Trek was all about showing us what Roddenberry wanted us to become, not about how we might get there. It was never meant to be backward engineered and attempts to do so tend to find nothing but holes. It's better not to look behind the curtin and just enjoy the show.

I guess...but I'd say Roddenberry's vision of a future humanity composed of uninventive self-righteous space socialists leaves room for improvement.

I've only really seen a few episodes of the original series, born too late to watch it at the time lol. Didn't really care for it (mainly because it’s just too dated), and originally got into TNG. Later on for me came Voyager, then DS9 and finally Enterprise.

I enjoyed all of them save the original series, but I had a special liking for DS9. The whole series seemed a bit darker than the others and I liked the fact that they basically had to stay in one place. It meant they had to deal with continuing issues.

It also only involved the Borg once and I felt Voyager didn’t really do them justice (although as a kid, the episode “Scorpion” scared the hell out of me, I loved it), to the point where I found myself routing for them all to get assimilated in the final episode.

Reading the books mitigated that though, in her arrogance Janeway ends up assimilated and later dead, and I had a total fangirl reaction when Voyager got the crap blown out of it and the Borg start annihilating the Federation. Felt like justice.

No doubt. Babylon 5 was an attempt to show humanity in a more natural setting and it was a pretty good show. Battlestar Galactica did a great job of showing humans in super stressful situations. Firefly was pretty good and really was a bit dystopic. Farscape was a lot of fun but mostly just space opera adventure. Stargate was also fun but not very serious and very, very light on the science.

I'll have to check BSG out, I've got Hulu plus after all.

Star Trek: The Next Generation, I think had the best plots, especially when Gene Rodenberry was excecutive director of the series.

Voyager. It was the first Star Trek series I watched, so it gets a special place in my heart. Especially when the Borg came into the picture, if it was good before it was awesome after. Seven of Nine was one of my favorite characters and the Borg was great villians. Never seen a Star Trek series I didnt like, though.

Oh I know! Season 1 was decent, season 2 was ok at best, 3 was great, and 4 was awesome!! Once they brought in the writers who knew what they were doing made Enterprise a great Trek series. But alas...the new Paramount and UPN executives were pretty much doing anything they could to kill Star Trek. Have you seen the notes for Season 5? They were going to make season 4 look like a playground act with the buildup to the Romulan War.
Crap, now I have to get that one to. Already collected all Voyager seasons on DVD and I am in the process of doing the same with DS9, so then I guess I will collect Enterprise :p. For some reason they never showed all the seasons on TV, which was kind of sad.

I'll have to check BSG out, I've got Hulu plus after all.
That reminds me to get my hands on the last season... having a terrible economy sucks or I could just buy all these great series directly :sad4:.

Any love for Seaquest? :)

Lol, Seaquest. I just liked the talking dolphin. I still can't believe that with our advanced computer knowledge, we haven't built a dolphin to human translation program. Sure all they'd talk about is fish...I'd imagine that dolphins are like the Eskimoes and snow...a million words for subtle variations in fish and types of fish. Plus I'd imagine that dolphins love to gossip about other dolphins.

Lol, dolphins are known to be bullies in the ocean. What if when we translate their speech, all they did was make fun of us and laugh? That would be great.

I prefer the original "Wagon Train to the stars" idea instead of all the soap-opera-like stuff that came after beginning with "Next Generation".

Lol, that would be pretty sweet. I can see it now...

Flipper to Flopper: "Did you see what the human trainer known as Marsha was wearing today? Absolutely ghastly! I mean, who wears socks with sandals? Am I right?"

Flopper to Flipper: "I know! Right!? And what's with Brady's hair!?...omg!!! Looks like a swordfish caught in a tuna net!"
