A lot of this is thanks to congress and the previous administrations overall response to the virus, unfortunately. Personally, I take politics out of it. Science isn't political.

It's the political tone more so than the political views. For example, many nurses would probably not laugh (and so forth) if someone smoked and developed lung problem that brought him in the hospital to be diagnosed with lung cancer. Maybe to himself, he may say that was a bad habit that patient made, but as a doctor, probably not so much laugh. If he treated someone with COVID who caught it because he didn't get the vaccine and/or wear a mask, I would hope he'd treat the patient just the same. The political part is, many medical professionals probably would not (going by RF). But if RF people are real people ;) I wouldn't be surprised if others felt just the same.

Science and medical ethics would see the two patients the same regardless what caused him or her to be in the hospital. Politics divides.

Because, currently, covid is making the rounds at exponential rates (due to its viral and airborne nature), so the percentage of people getting infected is also at exponential rates. This means a large percentage of the global population has or will get covid at some point. This is unlike AIDS, being sexually transmitted, has a slower transmission rate. I've also never met many anti-condomers, but masks? Hooo boy.

Now what happens if 50-80% of those people get long term symptoms, and can't work for a year or more (ever?)? The impact this will have is unprecedented, this is one reason why covid is being singled out currently.

Anti-condomers, probably in the day AIDs was at its peak. I wouldn't be surprised ten years down the line we'd say the same with masks. Though, I do find condoms work better in general, to be honest.

We Never Know

No Slack
This makes sense and is what people have been discussing when talking about Long COVID symptoms.

My wife is one of those still suffering. Still chronic fatigued, occasionally her throat closes at the slightest irritation, and she is having multiple heart problems (palpations, and high BP and heart rate), including an increase in her blood clotting proteins. She is also having concentration and speaking problems and needs to see a speech pathologist as well now.

There are no answers on how or why, only that it is occuring and they aren't sure what to do to other than symptom management.
Sorry to hear this. Best wishes to your wife and you.
