Subway

Is that the same as white bread?

No, not really.
Wheat bread is made out of the whole grain. White bread is made out of wheat kernel after the outside is buffed off and the flour bleached.
White bread has less flavor and nutrition but some people prefer it because it is softer.

It's similar. The wheat is good if you like the sandwich loaded, ie, all the extras. imo.
Works for me :D

The bread is mushy, the veggies taste blah. Not my thing, really. lol
I agree they are over-rated, and like most fast food places they are rather bland and not nearly as delicious or awesome as the food could be, I've never thought their bread was mushy. I even occasionally asked for my subs to be toasted a few extra seconds longer to make the edges of the bread crispy. Here, we used to have this place called Blimpies and it was a hundred times better than Subway.

Nah. White is really soft and it deforms and looses it's shape unless you are extremely gently with it, and wheat bread is generally more filling and nutritious than white bread.
Subway here has a whole wheat bread with a cheesy herb topping baked on.
I wish we had that here. It sounds really good. But we do have one Subway that is allegedly a "green" Subway, and another one that offers regular and wheat flatbread. And, last I knew, there was a Subway in Santa Clause that loads your food up.

I did not realise they varied that much. I don't do fast food very often, when I do what I want is the fast part.:)

I nearly always get a simple cold cut combo loaded up with all the veggies except jalapeño. As iti pointed out, you get so much more bang for the buck making it at home. I am pretty cheap that way. I can't help but compare what I could have made at home.

I don't care for the turkey 'quality' either...something about it. I'm picky about lunch meats, me thinks. :p

I have a much unhealthier guilty pleasure. Burger King Whoppers. For all I know the "flame broiled" taste comes in an aerosol can. But it reminds me of when I was a kid.
When my maternal grandmother was in a bad way from the cancer we visited often. Grandpa did not cook. So he and dad would often take us kids to BK to feed us. To us kids it was a big treat, usually my parents did not splurge on restaurant food. It gave Mom time with her Mom, without all of us underfoot.

So every now and then (usually when BK is having a 2for$5 sale) I'll get a couple and gorge on them.

That makes a ton more sense. I was having trouble imagining a Hoosier vegan market that would support a Subway.
Yeah. Just one vegan Subway could probably feed all the vegans in the state and still have really slow business all day. It probably wouldn't take long for people to describe it as an anomaly, and enigma, and poke it with a stick.

According to my brother who lives in Ft. Wayne, there is a vegan cafe there. Not sure how long it's been there or how well it's doing, though.

There are some decent meatless burgers and hotdogs made with black beans, mushrooms, soy, tofu, etc.
Do they taste anything like the real thing?
I'm guessing to make those, serious processing take place, and processed foods are known for their lower health value and benefit.

"Better" means different than the real thing which means not like the real thing!!

Just kidding :D

Sorry :(
When I posted that, I was thinking specifically of these dull, bland, and entirely and utterly flavorless beef hamburger patties sold at a local meat/butcher store. It's not hard for tofu to beat them, because even water and air have more flavor.
