Teen caught driving 191 mph in his father's car

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Very few people go that fast on the Autobahn. And why should you when you can take your car for a spin at the nearest, world famous racing track.
Are there racing tracks in Canada?
I remember back in the late 70s early 80s there was a big problem with road racing.

The cops actually had a great idea, and what they did was they set up a competition with a souped-up patrol car and with the help of a local race track they let teens get the opportunity to race the patrol car and see if they can win a race against it.

Of course the proper safety modifications had to be made before they brought their vehicle onto the track in the interest of safety, but it helped redirect that need for speed to the proper place.

I don't know what happened to it since or even if they do that anymore.

I thought it was awesome though.

The only track I'm aware of is the Motorsports track in Toronto.

We have that problem here too, with lots of racing on the exteriour circle route, in the wee hours of the night, or early mornings. The police have set up more surveillance as a response.

I would be all for reducing and enforcing mandated governors to something fast enough, but not crazy. Here in Canada, maybe 150 km. In Europe for many manufactures it's 250 km, which seems too high.

You could also put in automatic engine shutdown devices after a certain speed is reached.

I love driving fast, in the right place, the right place is a dedicated track, not a public highway.

So, is Canada gonna ban cars or teenagers over it?
No, because cars have a legitimate, important use.

Instead, they'll just require every car and driver to be licensed, and police will hide in bushes watching people use their cars and jump out to cite them if they see them doing something wrong.

Of course... though there are fewer and fewer as time goes on.

Circuit Mont-Tremblant just lost a class action suit filed by nearby residents - the vast majority of whom built their homes after the track started operating - for noise:

Updated – Now hear this: Circuit Mount Tremblant looses class action suit concerning noise levels

Still, I can think of at least 6 tracks within a couple hours' drive of Toronto that offer either lapping or drag racing for street cars.

Ban teens, duh.

That was basically impossible where I lived at that time in my life, as there arent enough people around for their to be enough cars to keep it a secret. There's also no chasing down the street there, as that could be a mile stretch or more before the nearest intersection or turn.
We just had to go where the traffic was likely not to do dumb stuff. Mine crazy was time-challenging people down a very narrow and winding route, amd a few people only ever took me up on it. And a few months short of a year ago, driving back here through the desert mountains, I was zooming through them, keeping up with a Corvette in my not as small as it looks Scion Xd, resulting in my engine blowing miles outside a town called Mini Vegas, a place I dubbed "Mini Bat Country" for a number of reasons. (In my defense, I was manic at the time)
Ahh to be young dumb and own a fast car.

Skanky Old Mongrel!
I guess with the roads having light traffic, there's a lot more room to race. Thank goodness nobody was hurt. The kid's got some brass, that's for sure.

Where I live the kid would lose his licence, get an enormous fine and be made to take his test again when his ban was eventually up. And if he was not insured for the car his old-man would get nicked 'n'all. :p

Ahhh....to be not young but not old, no longer possessing youthful idiocy, and still have a fast car (not the fastest I've had, but it'll go).:D
And poor people who it took weeks and months to travel across America in times past. I can make it from here to Texas in a half day with cooperative travel/hauling *** conditions (normal time 15-16 hours plus stops.
Now, the little speed demon in the OP, going his speed depending on the route and conditions, it should only take him about a day to get from one end of America to the other.

I really want to go back to a race track. I spent some time a few years ago at Laguna Seca with CBR600RR and had an absolutely amazing time.

On the stretch of I-10 between San Antonio and El Paso, there's a lot of empty road, but one encounters a few fast drivers going 100+. I never had the guts to go that fast, and the last time around in my truck, I was facing a heavy headwind and couldn't get faster than 80.
