Teenagers Set Dog on Fire

You can't really compare the brain and nervous system of insects to that of mammals. A fly doesn't have the same level of emotion and awareness that a dog has.

If it's alive, I don't think it's ok to torture it. That's really not that hard to understand.

I'm sorry, but I don't feel ashamed. I don't like Japanese Beetles or ants or cicadas. I did feel bad after drowning a spider once though... which is weird, because I don't like spiders either.

It's ok, I feel ashamed for you. Torturing living things at all is not any realm of ok.

Yes I do. I think that hurting living things is wrong. If I do mess up and slap a mosquito in self defense, I usually pray for it afterwards. Torture is torture. I'm sorry.

That wasn't the question. How many times have you killed a mouse, rat or something bigger? How many times have you killed a bug like a mosquito, fly, spider, ant, etc.? The point is that there's a difference. Sure, you're welcome to pray about it after you kill anything, but you won't even come close to killing a mouse, I'd bet. I'm pointing out that difference.

I realize that the "real" fear here is what they could do to people, and yes that's a concern,

For those who aren't animal people, that is the main concern. However, for those of us who are animal people that's only one concern.

but as long as we feel it's OK to torture other living creatures whatsoever without a thought of their lives, that is the breeding ground for the mess these kids are in. It begins with a messed up mentality. It could have very well started with mice, bugs, and cats. We don't know how many things these boys have set on fire.

Who said it was OK? The thing you're missing is the connection between mammals like mice, cats and dogs and humans. There is no reason to think that just because a kid killed a bug, he/she could potentially kill a human. There is, however, every reason to believe that a kid who does something like this could kill a human. The reason for that is that dogs show emotions as humans do and we can empathize wth them. They are infinitely more like us than bugs are. That's not to say that killing bugs is perfectly OK, it's just not alarming in the same way.

Also, there is more to a dog's life than to a fly's, for instance. A fly lives a couple of days or so and then dies. Again, that's not necessarily defending killing it, it's just to show how huge a difference there is. That difference is very significant to this discussion.

Wow, I'm going to assume you didn't mean to be nearly as condescending and obnoxious as this came out. At least I hope not. You sound like an obnoxious Christian (to distinguish from all of the perfectly likeable Christians) saying "Well, homosexuality is a sin, no matter what you think. I will pray for you."

but she was just a kid. kids may not really know. specially with bugs. i sincerely doubt if kids know they are hurting incests as they torturing them. we are not alike. they do not bleed as we do. when they grow up enough to know it actually hurts and if they still like to torture creatures and kill them for fun or simply because they "can" kill, then there is something wrong. age 17 is old enough to know that.

also, there are sprays to kill insects. they are not illegal. they are poison and i am afraid they torture incests during killing. if that's the case then how could a kid know it is not nice to kill an incest if it is not a threat to his life? i do not expect to see any news or highligths about a person who killed 45 mosquitos over a night. but, as it happens here once in awhile, say 2 dozens of dogs found dead in woods has a place on news. animal lovers force media to say a word on this stuff because seriously, there are people who's killing stray animals, i mean they kill masses. a few months ago some women while they were jogging in a forest they found dead animals, cats, dogs...dozens of them. i give reaction to that. everyone should. there are many more things going on around world. say, whales that Danish kill, have you ever seen how they kill them? as they do sea turns into red. horrifying stuff indeed. unfortunately i am informed about this kind of stuff cos i love animals. i recently asked to become official helper of stray animals and accepted it. but i can not tell people not to kill incests in their homes or in their farms. i can relate with your understanding and personally i am the same. i find it morally wrong to torture anything at all and to kill a creature who's not there to take your life.

Torture is the act of inflicting pain for its own sake. Slapping a mosquito isn't torture. It might result in suffering for the mosquito, but the suffering isn't the goal.

For me, the distinction is in the intent. If need be, I'll put out mousetraps to get rid of a mouse infestation that can cause disease in my loved ones and me or cause dangerous damage to my house. If a live trap will do the job (and I've finally found one that does), great, but absent that, I've got no qualms about getting rid of that infestation using methods that are fatal for the mice. However, I'd never kill a mouse just for the sake of killing it or making it suffer.

It was done by U.S. servicemen while on duty about a year ago while his buddies filmed it, I think he eventually got a dishonorable discharge over it.
If it's the video I think you're talking about, I'm pretty sure it was a fake.

What about picking a flower and disecting it?

That's funny, because it reminded me of quite a few of the Gay community in how they talk with me. But hey, it's just the way it goes when you don't see things the way the majority does.

I don't mean it in a condescending way, I honestly think she is being disrespectful for life. I knew some kids like her once. I attended a high school where we were required to dissect a pig featus. I didn't participate. At the end of the dissection, for extra points, the kids took the baby pigs intestines, tied them together, and jumped rope out of them. The person with the most jumps got an extra 5 points on their score.

That's sick, and it's the same kind of mentality that says "they can't feel it, so they're not really hurting anything." But one living thing that can do that to another shows utter disrespect and sickness. Especially when we are people and we know better.

I wouldn't come close to killing anything unless I was threatened or had to eat.

I'm just saying what I feel. There's not much you can say to change my mind about it, because I don't see the difference. It's like this:

you're either for torture or against it. I'm against it. That's just me, feel however you want about it. I don't care.
You're either for the gay community, or you're against them, and I'm for them. It's black and white, just like that. Same exact thing.

But can you truly torture something if it doesn't feel pain, either physically or emotionally?

I guess there are no nerves inside an insect, that is can't feel pain, and that you know for a fact, 100% that they can't feel emotional pain.... I don't know that, so I don't believe that torturing them is ok

but going out of your way to kill things when they've done nothing to you IS torture. Whereismynote.... obviously went outside into the bugs areas and put hot wax on them for fun. That's sick.

exactly, which is why even if I don't like it, I understand it. You wouldn't go out of your way to torture anything just for fun, or just because you thought it would be cool, which makes you a ******* human. I'm glad to know you.

A wounded animal is in the middle of the road. Do you hit and kill it or let it suffer?

No, it's just the way things go when you are condescending about your opinion. It's not that you disagreed with her. It's that you were talking down to her. It would be nice if you could read your writings objectively to see what I mean. I've learned that you can't, though.

I don't mean it in a condescending way, I honestly think she is being disrespectful for life.

That's great. Then say it in a different way. Just say "I think you're being disrespectful to life". That would have been worlds better than what you said.

That's funny. That doesn't sound anything like her to me. What does that have to do with anything? Were those kids hurting that pig anymore? Would it have hurt the pig less if they hadn't done that with the intestines?

That's sick, and it's the same kind of mentality that says "they can't feel it, so they're not really hurting anything." But one living thing that can do that to another shows utter disrespect and sickness. Especially when we are people and we know better.

Sorry, it's nothing like it. There's a huge difference between torturing or harming a pig, and using a body part of one after it's already long dead. Maybe a more relevant example would be better.

I wouldn't come close to killing anything unless I was threatened or had to eat.

OK, so then you're saying you were wrong before and you've never swatted a mosquito or fly? I'm willing to bet you've killed an insect on more than one occasion even though it was only an inconvenience to you, not a threat.

I'm just saying what I feel. There's not much you can say to change my mind about it, because I don't see the difference. It's like this:

you're either for torture or against it. I'm against it. That's just me, feel however you want about it. I don't care.

I'm not arguing about what you feel. I'm arguing that regardless of what you feel, there is a huge difference between killing a bug and killing a dog. If you can't acknowledge that, then there's something wrong. You may feel that it's wrong to kill a fly, but it's still a much different act than killing a dog.

For instance, it's wrong to steal $10 from your dad to go to the movies. It's also wrong to steal someone's entire life savings to support yourself for the rest of your life. Both things are wrong, but there is a huge difference between them.

exactly, which is why even if I don't like it, I understand it. You wouldn't go out of your way to torture anything just for fun, or just because you thought it would be cool, which makes you a ******* human. I'm glad to know you.

Now, you're arguing against a strawman. Who here has said they'd do this now? I've heard several people say they did it as kids, including Hannah.

Oh. So if I really wanted to understand about a dog's organs and could not afford a book and felt bad while I did so, I could kill the dog and disect it? It's all okay as long as you feel bad?

And does that mean that a boquet of flowers is torture? My mom didn't need roses for mothers day. So I suppose I tortured those roses so that she could have them, because they had to slowly die since their roots were gone. I didn't even know I was torturing the flowers...
