Games usually run at a set amount of frames per second - fifty or sixty on most games of today. Lag is where the frames per second drop from the normal count, and will be noticed as the game "slowing down."

oh, well, that doesn't seem like the end of the world to me...... i don't like it, but it doesn't annoy me too badly.

It's a graphical problem that affects the gameplay. A game suddenly slowing down is quite a problem, particularly if you are playing a game that requires precise reflexes, like shooters.

It is very annoying when you are a moment away from a perfect headshot and one moment later the enemy is gone, simply because you missed that one moment where his nose is exactly on your cursor

Okay, here are some classics i love. Shadowrun, for both the snes, and sega genesis. Lufia 1 and 2, for the snes. I can't remember what it was called, but you control a space ship, and you are fighting like some tigers or something like that.
New stuff.... let's see. I recently played deus machina. The second one. Pretty good. Skyrim was good, if a bit buggy.

Sounds like Wing Commander. You were fighting the Kilrathi, who were all weird cat-people aliens.
For classic games, probably my favourites were Chuck Yeager's Air Combat Simulator and SimCity.

The highlight of Green leaf is that I named my trainer "Christ" so it´s awesome when I see "Christ saved the game"
