My last name rarely fits on forms as well!

Sri Lankan friends of mine tend to use short forms of their surnames. Sinhalas often have long surnames!
So Welsh names are like some Welsh village names? Vietnamese names are also long. At one time I believe you could tell a lot more about a person from their names, and that goes across cultures. Jati, gotra, occupation, a physical characteristic, ancestor names, were often hidden in names.

Haha! My surname's not Welsh :p It's made up of my mother and father's surnames, and they're both Scottish in origin.

I'll admit I think a move away from that is positive, given what it means for society.

Sounds to me like the government departments that create these forms ought to add a few blocks. That would be less discriminatory than having a slough of immigrants alter their names.

I guess we'll scan a fingerprint for IDing before long and it'll all be moot.

Would you be leading the revolution? I'd be pretty cool with such a technology, inandof itself.
Not me I'm afraid. If they decided to go with chip implants, I'd be the first to sign up. Although it would feel like shoplifting for awhile, imagine walking into a store, waving your hand on the way in, picking up all your items, and then waving again on the way out. Technology like that is well on its way. But like much technology, it will kill jobs. That machine can't smile back at you.

True. I reckon that eventually automation will bring on inevitable changes to our economic paradigm.
