Norwegian woman fighting jail sentence in Dubai for reporting rape - World News
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — A Norwegian woman sentenced to 16 months in jail in Dubai for having sex outside marriage after she reported an alleged rape said she decided to speak out in hopes of drawing attention to the risks of outsiders misunderstanding the Islamic-influenced legal codes in this cosmopolitan city.
To be convict the victim of rape for being raped....what goes on in the minds of some people?

Well, they don't think it was an assault. According to them, she had sex outside of marriage and was publicly intoxicated. Of course, having sex outside marriage and getting drunk in public are perfectly good reasons to be imprisoned.

Oh, and to continue with my sarcasm, didn't you know there's no such thing as rape in a country like U.A.E.? Just like there are no homosexuals in Iran? Get with it, Rev.

it isn't that easy to rape a woman inside a hotel.

if both did it while drunk then i think it was a stupid decision of her to call the police.

You know your ethics are screwed up when one says someone is stupid for seeking help from the police for a sexual assault.

And there was no mention of her being drunk in the first place, and it shouldn't matter if she was. It doesn't matter where she, what she was doing, what she was wearing, or anything else. The only thing that matters is whether or not she consented to sex.

And how sure are you that there was a sexual assault, because she said so,then its true.

Dubai: A Norwegian woman has been sentenced to 16 months in jail for getting drunk and having consensual sex with her boss, whom she claimed raped her in his hotel room.
The Dubai Misdemeanour Court handed the 24-year-old Norwegian, Marte Deborah Dalelv, a three-month imprisonment for falsely reporting to police that she was raped, a month’s imprisonment for drinking and 12 months for having consensual sex.

Dalelv ’s 33-year-old Sudanese boss, H.A., was jailed for 13 months for consuming liquor and having consensual sex.

When the woman appeared in courtroom nine, she admitted to drinking alcohol. She denied having consensual sex and falsely reporting to police that she was raped on March 6.

The Dubai authorities seem to play it safe....if she can't prove the
sex wasn't consensual, then convict & imprison.....just in case.

That source just confirms to me that their culture is completely screwed up. How messed up is it when you are raped, and then have to claim it was consensual in order to lessen the punishment you will receive for being raped?

Just to be clear where we all stand, since you are defending the government here, are you saying they don't punish people for being raped or are you saying that punishing people for being raped is justified?

Rule #1 as a woman from the western world is not to travel to these countries. Its simply quite stupid to do so.

Now she'll probably knows better.

I wonder how dangerous it is if a woman enters the country with full understanding of
the culture & laws, & exercises due caution. Still, what you say is my first leap too.

Omg yes. Like the American women a couple months ago that got raped in India and Brazil. I always tell people not to go to these places.

Women get raped at home too. The trick is, we have to try not to get raped in a country where it isn't particularly illegal to rape somebody, or where you might be jailed yourself for being raped, like anywhere in the Islamic world.

I know. It's sad. But western nations are a lot more safe, unless you walk into a ghetto in the US or w/e.

It's just that the third world is a lot more danger, especially if you're a white woman. Those men look at you like a goddess, and would do anything to have a night with you, even if it's by force. It's just how the third world is.

Or a man either. There are so many rules that you don't know about. Nothing works the same way.

Rape statistics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rape statistics around the world are sobering. Sweden actually has the highest reported incidences.

There still remains in many parts of the world - civilized or not - that stigmatizes rape victims and shames them into silence. Whether it's considered a husband's marital right, an argument that tight jeans prove rape isn't possible (go Italy), criminalizing "sex" if you report the rape, or put yourself at risk of an honor killing by your own family if you report the rape....survivors have a long road ahead.

Yes. Sweden is flooded with Somalis now, and other immigrants from the third world. It's a shame what they've done to that country. In the town of Oslo in Norway, 100% of the rapes were reportedly done by third world immigrants. Not sure about stats of the other cities in Scandinavia, but I'm willing to bet 9/10 of them were done by third world immigrants.

Sweden had the highest standard of living in the world, and now look what happened.

Multiculturalism has been a failure. Here's the proof of it. Some cultures just will stay primitive, and keep raping women.

That isn't what I've found. Do you have a source?

According to a EU study on rape, immigrants were not mentioned as a distinguishing factor:

The figures can however be somewhat distorted as it is often only assault rapes by strangers and aggravated acquaintance rapes that are reported in many of these countries - as was the case in Sweden 40 years ago.

The high incidence of rape in Sweden has a strong connection to nightlife and partying, specifically after-club parties in private homes.

Early sexual debuts, high alcohol consumption, "free sexuality" and the "right to say no" quite simply results in more rapes, the study concludes.

Which offers an assumption that part of sex education, IMO, ought to focus on what informed consent looks like.
