And, we in our country, we condemn rape to the fullest. We don't try to convince girls to marry their rapists. And we don't jail women for reporting it and say "she had immoral sex".

We do? I must have missed that memo. Last thing I heard was the US has a rape-culture problem and punishing the victim was common place.

Namaste,

Gujarat isn't a place, my friend. It's a nation-state, with it's own ethno-linguistic community and laws. It's huge! Almost the size of Texas. Yet, tourists rarely go there - hell, Gujarat has one of the most ancient cities on the planet: lookup Dwarka; yet tourists don't really care it seems. They continue to go to the worst places possible where rape happens every three days probably.

What? Many of those rapists were raped by men in jail as soon as they went behind bars to await trial. They were not getting off free and the girl was not going to get married to any of them. Don't equate Moroccan culture with Indian.

You didn't offend me. Your characterization of India as a whole wasn't a good approach to the matter of rape in India. Pakistan isn't just notorious for the stoning; they are also notorious for massive kidnapping sprees of women from minority groups such as Shia and Hindu (and no, dear Pakistani members reading this, Minkal Kumari doesn't count) communities. Yet, these rarely make it to the news in the West. Also, alcohol was supplied in massive quantities to Russian forces during their occupation of Berlin - you do know how many women they raped during the nights, right? Same thing goes for the Serbs in Sarajevo and Luma...

Alright, will do. I've just been watching many videos of India lately, and all the pollution and trash in the Ganges river, and I always assosictae cleanliness with charecter. I can't understand what the people there are thinking.

They are probably thinking they want to enjoy the same privileges and lifestyle that any other developed country has.

He said they want to enjoy our lifestyles, so I mentioned one of the roadblocks, that's all.

That's just something developed countries don't do.

Wouldn't you agree that India would be a lot better off if people cleaned up?

I mean, I've never seen someone here bath in a messy river. I'm sorry if it offends you, but it's just gross.

Namaste,

India would be much better if there was no poverty and litter.

And, if they want to go offer prostration to the Holy Shrī Gangā-Mā, that is their choice. They are not engaging in crime by doing so.

Not now, sure. But for current developed countries, the history of their cleanliness isn't very pleasant at all. It's actually kind of nasty. We were basically just living in our own filth and disease. And forget about the environment, nobody cared about that, in fact, caring about pollution is a relatively new thing for developed countries.

Namaste,

Coming back on track, Bismillah-ji has provided some eye-turning links. Any thoughts regarding these links concerning the case posted by the OP?

Got many people bathing in the gulf of Mexico these days? We hardly have anybody swimming in those northern Alberta lakes and rivers any more. The water kills migrating birds on contact.

Yeah but your skin isn't brown so it's not as bad. (Oops, did I just acknowledge the elephant in the room and say what everyone else is thinking?)

Quite right. Developed nations just dump factory crap into rivers and seas.

That you did, my friend.

When I was living in England, one of my coworkers was always whinging and moaning about immigrants stealing English jobs. Eventually, I said "Hey, have you even noticed I'm an immigrant, and I stole an English job?" He was all "Well, it's not your kind we're concerned about." And I was all "Oh, really? What 'kind' am I, exactly?" And he came over all mumbly and evasive - said something about having a good grasp of the English language. Funnily enough, he owned a cottage in the South of France and couldn't speak French. He had me translate all his property-related correspondence for him.

In all fairness to him, though, he wasn't ONLY a racist. He also hated the poor.
