Here's an interesting situation. Man arrested for violating concealed carry policy. I agree with the officer response. Any dingbat should know that a cop will be suspicious of a weapon and why in the heck this guy didn't announce he had a weapon and permit when he pops out his van is astonishing.
LiveLeak.com - FL Deputy Threatens to Shoot Concealed Carry Licensee and Arrests Him for Lawfully carried Handgun
Both guys were dicks. The first thing I do when dealing with a cop is tell them I have a CCW & whether or not I'm carrying.
This always goes smoothly.
Accidental exposure happens, & I've never seen such a testy reaction to it. But cops are individuals & have their own
problems, so one must be careful, & ensure that they feel comfortable.

Dictionary.com:
stat·ism
noun

1. the principle or policy of concentrating extensive economic, political, and related controls in the state at the cost of individual liberty.

2. support of or belief in the sovereignty of a state, usually a republic.

The democratic decision of parents and teachers to control who (if anyone) may bring firearms near public schoolchildren, is about the smallest amount of state power, at the smallest cost of individual liberty, that one can imagine, without reducing society to a lawless free-for-all, and might-makes-right. (Here I am referring to the "liberty" of a private citizen to walk into a public kindergarten with a gun, against the democratic will of the public. For their own protection, of course.) Calling this "statist" is not mirthful or distracting. It's foolish. :sorry1:

But then, I just remembered I'm talking to the guy who calls an 8% increase in taxes "socialism" ... so I guess I'll have to lower my own standards of using plain language and call Revoltingest and others on his side of the argument "anarchists". It's an accurate term, according to the lax standard of accuracy now being set in this thread.

Hahaha, just realized I thought it was a different word: statism: the state of being static, as in no movement, preferring the status quo.

I think I just made it up.

But isn't it against CCW policy to accidently expose? It's one thing in a McDonald's, another thing when you're pulled over and the cop has zero idea who they are. Especially if they don't announce it immediately to the cop and whip your wallet like nothing.

I've noted & addressed your disagreement.
(You know...we're beating a dead horse, since I said I plan to avoid inflammation.)

But then, I just remembered I'm talking to the guy who calls an 8% increase in taxes "socialism"...
Do I? If you really want to explore this, please find the relevant posts, & we can discuss it.

This anarchist (or minarchist) would prefer that you not relax your standards.

You betcha!

It's one thing in a McDonald's, another thing when you're pulled over and the cop has zero idea who they are. Especially if they don't announce it immediately to the cop and whip your wallet like nothing.
It pays to exercise good judgement & great care when carrying concealed.
I hope the guy in the video learned from his experience.

So you agree the cop was doing the right thing and proper response (minus the expletives)?
No. I think he over-reacted, but I can also understand it.
I wonder if cops are trained to use profanity?

The cop did his job and the CCW violated policy. Why are you having a hard time admitting that? I think this van owner needs to have a mental check if you ask me. He clearly was oblivious to the situation and proper protocol.
Say the driver was black. Didn't announce the CCW and permit. Cop sees the exposure and has zero idea whether it's legal or not. I don't understand your defense.

You asked my opinion, & I gave it.
I don't avoid "admitting" anything.

I did not defend the guy.
I even pointed out how he was wrong.
Could it be that you just don't like my opinion that the cop over-reacted?

A news item illustrating the problems with legislation crafted in haste & fervor....
Additions to be made to gun laws for law enforcement | 7online.com

It appears someone forgot to exempt police officers from the ban of ammunition clips with more than 7 bullets in New York State's new gun control law.
It's a big oversight that apparently happened in the haste by the Cuomo Administration to get a tough package of gun-control measures signed into law.
On Tuesday, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the sweeping gun measure, the nation's toughest. It includes a ban on the possession of high-capacity magazines.

I don't disagree that he over-reacted (see my expletive remark). I believe that being there were 2 people involved escalated the issue. Trust needs to be earned. After watching the video the first time I was thinking in the back of my head "why isn't this guy telling the cop he has a weapon on him?"

I agree.
