The alcohol problem

He appears to be a nice guy, but he suffers from alcoholism. It is a progressive disease. It will slowly take over his life, interfering with his ability to work. It will i nterfere with his ability to have quality relationships. It's easy to be nice to strangers. What's hard is maintaining the love between you and your family and close friends.

The pity of all this is exemplified in the movie 'Leaving Los Vegas' starring Nicholas Cage. He has said it was the hardest movie he has made taking a toll acting the part.

I am dead serious. Do not confuse me not being serious, vs, me addressing ridiculous stuff. I agree it is sometimes difficult to tell the difference.

What is downloaded? The thing that cannot think, as you said a few posts ago? Or what, exactly?

Will you, or better your soul, spend all eternity without thinking?

IMOP The saved will receive a new body in heaven which has mind, is conscious etc. The soul that begins to grow in this life will become a part of that new person. In the next life we pick up right where we left off in terms of our growth.

Yes, but that soul we have now cannot think. It does not have a brain. Your words.
So, where do we pick up from?

The Father fragment or Thought Adjuster that lives within the salvaged sons of God is in possession of our memory transcripts. Upon the resurrection our personality, memories and soul are reunited. You can find more in the Urantia Book. This thread is getting sidetracked.

Reason why I say so is that Bible tells don't get drunken. I understand it means, when person is drunken, he is under influence of alcohol, not under Spirit, which is not good. And from that comes the idea that alcohol is not bad, if person is not drunk of it and alcohol doesn't rule him.

”All things are lawful for me," but not all things are expedient. "All things are lawful for me," but I will not be brought under the power of anything.
1 Corinthians 6:12

That is why I think alcohol is not a problem, if it does not rule person. But, you don't have to agree with me on this. And anyway, I think it is better not to use alcohol, it is not necessary and it can cause problems.

What you say is that the New Testament conflicts with other verses of the NT or the word Methusoi does not mean what it means! There are direct verses that speak of drunkards, but are you claiming that drinking does not mean you are called drunkard?

Just because one is addicted to alcohol and is nice to his fans doesn't make him any better.

That does not only apply to fans. This was just an example.

He is addicted but if you caught him at the wrong time when he needs a drink and is out it's a bet that he would be meaner than a snake. The other guy is a sex addict.

This is what we call whataboutism.

But thanks for your contribution.

If you are determined enough, you can achieve many great things, within reason.

Some people are determined to do good, which will necessarily come at great personal cost to them. Being good requires a lot of sacrifices, and more often than not either people resent you because they disagree with your values or they want to knock you down a peg because you make them feel worse about themselves. It's an awful gig. Being genuinely good is probably the easiest way someone can make themselves miserable. Miserable enough to drink.

Other people are determined to fulfill their own desires for fame, wealth, power, luxury, pleasure, or what have you. They make no sacrifices and live affluently. Then they can virtue signal for some good publicity along the way, enjoying all of the social boons of appearing to be good that genuinely good people reject. All it costs them is their soul. Or, er, their values and integrity.

It's no wonder to me that religions invent concepts like karma or divine judgment or segregated underworlds to deal with the unfairness of life, but that's how it is.

Yes, drinking doesn't necessary mean person is drunken. And I understand drunken means person is intoxicated by alcohol. This does not mean I would recommend drinking alcohol, only that the problem is the intoxication, not the drinking itself, if one could do it without intoxication.

I am going to directly refer to two movie stars in the Indian world. One is called Kamal Hassan, and the other is called Rajini Kanth. Well, both are known to be the most prominent stars in the industry that produces more movies than Hollywood can think of.

As far as I know these two guys are the biggest and richest stars in the industry, unknown to the western world largely. Stark difference though.

Kamal Hassan is known to be a bit of a perv. Multiple girl friends, super actor, pretty rude to those who seek him trying to take a picture with him. But Rajini dude is a drunkard, drinks morning, day and night, but when someone abruptly arrives at his gate wanting a picture with him. he is famous to have invited them home, given them some refreshments, let them take all the pictures they wish, signatures if necessary and being a humble human being.

One is a drunkard, the other doesnt drink. But the drunkard is a great human being while the other is known to be not.

What's with this drinking thing? Could you shed some light?
Every single person is going to have a different personality - whether or not they drink.

I don't see any correlation or causation between personality types and drinking.

The party that claims the most concern about gun violence is soft on crime, soft on enforcing laws.

  • Guns prevent an estimated 2.5 million crimes a year, or 6,849 every day. Most often, the gun is never fired, and no blood (including the criminal’s) is shed.
  • Every year, 400,000 life-threatening violent crimes are prevented using firearms.
  • 60 percent of convicted felons admitted that they avoided committing crimes when they knew the victim was armed. Forty percent of convicted felons admitted that they avoided committing crimes when they thought the victim might be armed.
  • Felons report that they avoid entering houses where people are at home because they fear being shot.
  • Fewer than 1 percent of firearms are used in the commission of a crime.
