The Awesome Toy you never had..

Everybody has it's moments of jalousy.
And everybody had a toy they couldn't have when they were young. (If you didn't consider yourself a spoiled brat :p)

What was yours?

I was fan of the transformers and wanted to have the shockwave or soundwave robot. Never got it..

The soundwave one could play real cassettes

I had a Soundwave and a Shockwave. Unfortunately, I disassembled Shockwave and never could get him back together quite right. Soundwave didn't play cassettes, however there were transformer casettes - I had Laserbeak and Rumble. There was a Soundwave cassette player, but it wasn't one of the actual toys.

What I did want and never got was a brand-new Jetfire.

I wanted an American Girl doll. My mom wouldn't let me have one, because she said they were too expensive, then bought my little sister one a few years later.

You could hold up the back of his head to your eyes, and look through his telescopic bionic eye. It was awesome. The kids next door had one, and I didn't. So unfair.

Oh! I remember one: even before Voltron, Radio Shack had a fireman's hat with a real flashing red light and a real fire truck siren on it. I begged and begged my parents to get it for me, but they never did... at the time, I couldn't understand for the life of me why they wouldn't.

I never know how to feel about the whole thing. In the long run, it's just a stupid toy, and I'm no worse off for not having had one more material thing, but if it had been a simple question of "No, you can't have that," it would have been fine - I understood the concept of "We can't afford that," quite well - but like you said, fifteen years later and I still feel the sting of the inequity. I feel so conflicted about it, because my mother came to me before she bought the doll for my sister and told me that she'd buy one for me, too, if I still wanted it (but I was 16 by this point, and it was a bit too late) and then told me that if I felt bad about it, she wouldn't get it for my sister if I didn't want her to - and what the hell is a kid supposed to do with that, I ask you? 'No, don't give my sister the doll she really wants because it makes me feel bad?' What the hell kind of spiteful ***** would that make me? It wasn't my sister's fault, why should she have to suffer? Why even put me in that position? I think ultimately it was to alleviate her own feelings of guilt - like if I said it was ok for my sister to have it, then I had nothing to complain about. It's all so stupid and it shouldn't even bother me, it was so long ago, and she's really a good mom for the most part, but ****, it still stings like crazy.

All my female friends had Barbies but my mum thought they were trashy and insisted I have a sindy which was about 3 dress sizes bigger and an inch taller so I couldn't swap outfits, and my brother chewed her feet:sad:

Nothing, really. No toys, only video games... Yet to be told no :D Though having the PS3 for over a year, i have a mighty collection of 6 games! Two of which were under £15 :D

A BB gun. My mother was afraid we'd put somebody's eye out.
And a minibike.
I actually got a Rupp minibike. My father kept it at the Middlehope Drive-In inside the projection booth because the Drive-In was really the only place I could ride it. I loved that thing. I only had it for one season and then someone broke into the projection booth and stole it (so the story goes). My mother suspects that my father sold it to support the many girlfriends he had at the time. I suppose the truth will eventually come out in the form of a death-bed confession.

I was kind of fortunate growing up but there was one thing that I would put on my Christmas list every time but would never get. My sister and I received those thick Sears and JCPenny’s Christmas catalogues and we would begin composing are 10 page letters to “Santa.” Every year I always chose one of those black cat clocks with the swinging tail and the eyes that moved back and forth but I never got one. Later in life I would relate this story to one of my girlfriends and she ended up giving me the clock which I still have.

Some of us are still on a PS2, Don.

I could go out and buy a PS3, but there are only a handful of games that really interest me, and there is nothing in particular that screams out to me that I really need to go next-gen.

Amen. I have bought and played about 3 PS3 games since I purchased it but I am glad I bought my PS3 when I did. I bought the 60gb hardrive that was backward compatible to the PS2 and PS games. I heard that Sony discontinued these features in future models.
