The Beer Thread

I tend to prefer wine to beer, so I don't drink much of the latter. But when I do, I like Guinness Stout if I'm drinking it standalone, or a Dos Equis with fresh lime if it's with Mexican food (the usual meal where beer feels appropriate). With pizza, I prefer Chianti.

In Wisconsin there was this beer called "Spotted Cow" which I remember being pretty tasty.

Yeah, the New Glarus Spotted Cow is a good beer. If you'd like to try another New Glarus beer that has won many award, try their Belgian Red. It is seasonal and I believe you can get cherry and raspberry flavor. Compliments a chocolate dessert nicely. I'm a big fan of trying new beers, especially micro brews and imports. Take a look at Beer Ratings, brewer, brewpub, bar, beer reviews and more. It's the best site I've found that reviews and rates beers by category. I frequently look at the lists and then head to different liquor stores and see if I can find any on the lists. Why spend all of the money looking for all of the good beers when people can do the work for you?

Can't brain. Has dumb.
I'm not familiar with the brands you're throwing around here!

My fav's at the moment are

Grolsch (From my parent's home province in the Netherlands)
Mac's Gold (Kiwi beer)
Speights Old Dark (Another Kiwi beer)
Steinlager (Again... Kiwi - the Steinlager Pure is absolutely divine - no added/artificial stuff.)
And finally, Chimay (Which, I believe, is brewed by Belgian monks)

Because what they like may not necessarily be what I like. And besides, there's a lot of fun in experimenting with it! :D

I've had Grolsch and Steinlager....when I was in Germany I believe. Didn't have a bad beer the whole time there, and I tried dozens!

I just found out yesterday that Yuengling isn't as widely available as I thought, and only recently became available in South Carolina. I've been drinking it for years, blissfully unaware that my friend Carol has been buying it in Pennsylvania and bringing it home.

I like Grolsch. Never had the other brands you mention.

I like Yuengling, but as you mention, it's not widely available.

When I'm in the Western US, I like to have Fat Tire by the New Belgium Brewing Company... out this way, Mill Street Brewery stuff is good, as is the Church Key Brewing Company - they make a seasonal Ginger Rosemary Ale that reminds me of turkey stuffing, but not in a gross way at all; in fact, in the best way possible.

Also, anything from Unibroue (e.g. Maudite, Fin du Monde, Blanche de Chambly) is worth checking out.

In the summertime, Kawartha Lakes Brewing Raspberry Wheat Ale is one you should definitely try. Also Creemore Springs.

Mmm... beer.

Dogfish Head!

But I have a soft spot for Rolling Rock, as it used to be a local brew.

Ahhh, religious beer! I have a theory on that! Good stuff.

Mike- Cider in England is AWESOME!!!!!!! Wish I could get some good stuff here....

Buttercup, Grolsch tastest like a pine tree!!!!!!!!!! YUCK!

Mister_T, Corona is the worst of the Mexian beers.... YUCK!

I love Canadian beers! God bless Canada's beer makers! I loved the Molson Golden, but I'm not sure they make it anymore....

Beer is good, but please people:

Let us now speak of the goods of Lite/light beer! You can keep your girlish figure with low carbs and no fat, it doesn't taste like a monky's @$$ (no offense Buttercup), and it isn't like drinking syrup (one of the most vile things on the planet)!!!!!!!!!

Can I get a "YEAH FOR LITE BEER!"???

Didn't think so, but I figured I'd try....

Has anybody mentioned the good ole Texas beer of Shiner Bock? Good stuff as well.... just had Blue Moon the other night, not bad with an orange slice... and wheat beers: Hefeviezen! MMMMM.... beer is good.... most of it....... :flirt:

I don't think they have it here, but Molson sells different beers in the US than they do in Canada, so you may still have it.

I can probably think of a few good light-tasting beers, and a few good low-alcohol beers, but I've yet to find a decent beer that's marketed as "lite".

I also grew found of Amstel when I was in South Africa.
Amstel: The only beer I've found where the "light" (Or lite - at least, the low-alcohol version) one tastes better than the original.

Another good wheat beer: Hoegaarden

1554 New Belgium Enlightened Black Ale is my current favorite.
Mine, too. I don't drink much - very rarely more than one drink in an evening, but I find myself increasingly choosing beer over wine the last few months. Methinks it's Sunstone, Mystic and Guitar's Cry using their powers of mind control to turn me to the dark side . . . oh yes . . . . the delicious, dark, foamy enlightened ale side . . . .:sw:

I really miss good beer more than anything. I'm stuck with Singh-ha, Chang, Asha, and Tiger all rice beer if I want an import it will cost about $7 per bottle. The good news is we have a German brew pub and it is quite affordable however they do not sell beer to go so its not an option to drink at home.
