It varies greatly from church to church. Usually the methodist church will match how liberal/conservative the surrounding region is. In the south (and particularly the rural south) conservativism is very common.
That makes sense. I was just wondering because I know a Methodist, and he's not particularly conservative. He hates politics so we don't discuss it much, but he's told me he'd probably consider himself a Democrat/liberal if he had to choose. Plus he's pro-choice and not anti-gay. *shrug*

Reza, my islamic friend was telling me about how people in Iran if they have money are apt to help those in need around them. His father was helping three kids through school who were too poor to get an education. When his father was about to pass he asked Reza to finish what he had started. Reza did that. He is the gentleman who I qouted on here as saying once, "Robert, What you believe is not who you are. It is just what you believe. How you act and how you live is who you are."

Love to go, heard so many great things about GA but am unable to go this year due to the quarter ending. I may go to Portland next year but am uncertain about that too, but then I may consider going to a GA closer to California. With the last few GAs I always go to the UUA's GA website to view all the events and get highlights from our congregational delegates.
Anyone going to General Assembly?? :D[/quote]

Just FYI, http://forums.wizdum.net

This isn't meant to compete with RF (which I love even tho I haven't been on much lately). It's meant to be UU in depth. Ultimately, I would love for people to help me compile UU worship materials, UU social justice materials, etc, all in one convenient site.

So... the next time you're bored or the RF server goes down...

Anyone else ever feel like pitching a tent behind their church and just staying there since you're there so much? I do this week. Our church yard sale is Saturday so there's a lot that needs to be done in prep for that. The only day I won't be there is today, which might change because I need to talk to our office person I can't seem to get a hold of her by phone. When I move again, it will be closer to church if possible, not farther away. It takes me 30 minutes to get there and back now.

Anyway, I'm just rambling... how is everyone else's week going?

Our church had their yardsale last month. I think my grandmother said that we made a good profit this year, better than previous years, which is nice. Anyhow, my week has been going alright so far. It's darned hot out today and we have all them nasty mayflies about. I really should be doing the vacuuming right now, but I'm being lazy about it. :D

Hi Maize. Ramble on. :)

The RE program at our church follows the school year, so during the summer, the regular teachers take a break and the gaps are filled in by volunteers. My wife and I took care of the 5-9 kids this past Sunday. It was a pretty interesting experience, especially since we didn't have much in the way of guidance as to what to do. We read "The Sneetches" by Dr. Seuss and discussed the lesson contained therein. Then we let the kids color pictures of Sneetches and we played a few games. It wasn't anything very formal, but I really don't know how formal things are supposed to be for kids that age. Ours is only 3, and I honestly don't know much about that age range yet.

Just throwing my ramblings out there too. Carry on.

((Joys & Concerns time... (ok, only joys for me :)))

My wife and I celebrated our 9th anniversary yesterday. We conducted our annual "state of the union" discussion over a youngin'-free (thanks to the brother-in-law) candlelit dinner at home. We've had a great year.

Congrats Brandon! :clap
Thanks. :)

Next year, we plan on having our "state of the union" discussion somewhere in Europe (probably the UK), since neither of us has been before.

So did anyone go to GA? How was it?

GA conducts votes on various things, correct? Does anyone know what was voted on this year?

I wish I had the chance.

So, how does everyone plan to spend their 4th of July? I'm going over to my uncle's to have BBQ for the first time in... years. Hopefully I'll be able to opt out of work for the day. I could use a good day of just lounging around, eating, shooting fireworks (though it's against our community's laws, heh), and playing frisby with my cousins. Oh, did I forget TV? :p

I know it's a little late, but congratulations on the 9th year, Brandon! Hope your marriage will be forever wonderful. :D

Be ours a religion, which, like sunshine, goes everywhere; its temple, all space; its shrine, the good heart; its creed, all truth; its ritual, works of love; its profession of faith, Divine Living. -Theodore Parker

We are needed now more than ever as a people of faith in this world to do good and overcome injustice and evil. May we each put our talents and gifts to work toward our shared goal.

Just dropping in to say hello and bump the thread. :)

I missed services this week because we were in the car on the way home. I missed not being there. However, we were in the car that early on Sunday so I could make it back to town in time for band practice because we have our first show tonight. It's primarily another guy's band as he writes pretty much everything, but I enjoy playing.

Brandon congradulations on your annivesary!!! I have studying Islam alot in the last 7 months. I found two Muslims at my part time job and picked their brain, read some of the Koran and read online. One of the muslims is ****e and the other is sunni. By coincidence, Tracie who is a co-member with me in the Atheist Community of Austin was reading-up on Sufism and she introduced me to a poet named Rumi :

Whom had a large impact on the Sufi religion.

I missed Sunday as well, as I was in another state at the time. I have a board meeting tonight at church that I really do not feel like going to - is that bad of me? :cover:
