The contestants of the Miss America competition sound off on evolution.

This really, REALLY hurts my brain. It's frying.
I'm wondering why it "hurts your brain." The vast majority of these women seem to agree that evolution should be taught in the schools, even though most of them weren't exactly articulate in saying so. On the other hand, these are beauty pageant contestants. Who cares what they think?

The worst thing about'm is introducing irrelevant factors like talent, speeches, poise, etc.
All we need is a swimsuit or lingerie contest.....well....naked mud wrestling would be good too.

Naked mud wrestling pageant at noon tomorrow.

I've always wanted to see Revoltingest mud wrestle.

Now wait a second here folks. Let's not be so condescending and arrogant towards these women, especially when you're operating from nothing more than a stereotype of your own imagination.

Miss Washington

"An immigrant from Ukraine of eight years, Angelina is fluent in English, Russian and Ukrainian, the bilingual ability she hopes to use as a motivational speaker and a marriage counselor after completing her degree in psychology [at WSU]."

Miss Oregon

"Stephenie graduated from Oregon Institute of Technology in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene, many thanks to the $18,000 in scholarships received from participation in the Miss Oregon Program. As Miss Oregon, Stephenie has earned an additional $13,000 to pursue her graduate education and a $50,000 scholarship earmarked specifically for dental school. Stephenie currently serves as Lead Hygienist at Aloha Dental and has career aspirations of becoming a dentist."

Miss Massachusetts

"Alida D'Angona graduated from Gordon College, where she studied Communications and earned a Bachelors degree in Biology. Combining her passion for biology and public speaking, Alida pursued an internship in the biotech industry which launched her career at Genzyme, one of the foremost biotech companies in the world. Alida's life after college presented her with many unique opportunities to present groundbreaking research to several scientific communities. In 2010, Alida was accepted as a member of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics."

Miss Idaho

"Haljiti came to Idaho with her family in 2000 after barely escaping a war in her native country, Kosovo...Haljiti was among the first graduating class at Rocky Mountain High school in Meridian. She was enthusiastic and participated in the Associated Student Body, which is the school’s student government. She also ran cross country. She decided to continue her education at Boise State. She is now a sophomore and recently switched her major from biology to psychology and hopes to someday become a pediatrician."

Miss Florida

"As an adult I became a cardiovascular technician, and a polysomnography technician. I continue to go to school to become a Physician Assistant."

So come on people, let's try and not be too chauvinistic here. Just because they're young, pretty, and female doesn't mean they're all airheads.

Good point, Jose. For the record, I have no comment on anything but the idea of a beauty pageant.

By the way, will you be competing in tomorrow's mud wrestling tourney?

My wife is a registered nurse, specializing in labor and delivery. She is also blonde, pretty, and outgoing. All her career she has fought the perception among her coworkers, doctors, and administrative staff that therefore she's just a bobblehead who's not to be taken seriously. My career has forced us to move around a bit, and each time she started somewhere new these sorts of issues arose, and each time most folks eventually saw past the surface and started treating her with the respect she deserves, both professionally (she's one hell of a nurse...gets lots of awards) and as a person.

We have two daughters, 11 and 8, who are both pretty and intelligent. I'd hate to think that one day in the future if someone were to ask them what they thought on a subject, everyone would just laugh, make snide comments, and dismiss them simply because of their sex, age, and looks.

We can debate the merits of beauty pageants and what they mean, and we can debate the relevancy of these ladies' opinions on evolution, but that doesn't mean you have to act like a misogynistic jerk and make degrading, sexist comments about them.

Find 50 Macro-evolutionist girls that look anything close to them.

Call them "Meat Mannequins" all you like, you're just spitting on basic "Evolutionary Theory" of man wanting a fertile, pretty and feminine mate.

You should probably stop pretending that you have any understanding at all of evolutionary theory.

That's the mainstream media for you: a shameless time and attention waster, boldly selling eyeballs to advertisers since the invention of the printing press. Who can resist gawking at such titillating things as the vacuousness of Miss USA contestants, even if it means sitting through hours and hours of lucrative ads?

Me, me! I would hardly have my TV on at all if it weren't for my dang sister... The internet is a much better provider of titillating things :).

Why are you attempting to imply that appearance and education are related?

So I take it you wouldn't be able to find 50 "educated" (cough cough) girls who aren't Creationist but look like Miss USA girls.

Natural Selection scorecard: Creationists : 1 Macros: 0

"Look like Miss USA girls" is sort of subjective. Plus, most people can hardly find ONE girl who looks like the stereotypical Miss USA, let alone 50 that all happen to be aligned with truth.
(Personally, I prefer real women.)

(This issue is also completely and utterly irrelevant to the issue of the truth or falsehood of creationism. There's also a stereotype of Republican women being attractive which I've never been able to quite figure out, but that doesn't make being a Republican morally or logically acceptable.)

I'll bet 10,000 internetz that statistically, the girls considered more attractive are generally religious.

You should probably stop pretending like you'd adequately be able to disprove anything I've specifically said.

It has already been done a thousand times over for many years on this forum (simply use the search function). But no amount of facts will convince those who wallow in willful ignorance and intellectual dishonesty.

Why don't you link to a specific page where you feel a specific point of mine has been addressed thoroughly and refuted as such.

And I'll take that bet, as long as you dont just use american girls in your sample.
Australian girls are smokin hot and I don't know any who are religious.
Sweedish girls are pretty damn fine too, I hear they are almost all athiests.

Sweden's Atheism rate I think is overblown, they are not so much Atheist as they are non-establishment religious. Personally I think there's a Norse revivalist movement going on.

"

  • 23% of Swedish citizens responded that "they believe there is a god".

  • 53% answered that "they believe there is some sort of spirit or life force".

  • 23% answered that "they do not believe there is any sort of spirit, god, or life force"."
I haven't seen many Australian girls, haven't been too impressed with what I've seen so far, and the New Zealand girls I've seen I was far less impressed with but there are definitely many exceptions. Nonetheless, there is a strong religious presence in Australia, perhaps not as much in the Major metropolitan areas like Sydney but in the west like Perth.
