The Feminism Thread

It is interesting that you are bringing this topic up. I'm curious, In a perfect world, if you were use the diagram and remove the toxin from masculinity, you would get Steve Rogers, an impervious man free from social and self destructive behaviors. The question is would this impervious man allow or contain feminine energy? If it pure masculinity what room would it have for women? I am saying purely out of interest of what you think?

I don't think a man = masculinity. As the meme itself notes, people have some traits that might be considered masculine and some traits that might be considered feminine. Take the toxic out of masculinity and you're still left with masculine traits people would have; likewise with taking the toxic out of femininity.

Now of course, people aren't perfect, so expecting perfect people with no toxic traits is a pipe dream. But that doesn't mean it isn't worthwhile to identify toxicity and strive against it.

I am in perfect agreement with you, although, admittedly, I am not perfect myself. However, I often suppose that women and men are in a way naturally 'toxic' for each other. He have to be, in a small way, in order to permeate our masculine and feminine egos. Like water and ice. each have the same molecules but repel each other initially, only to sooner or later gain an 'immunity' or balance is made somehow. Every lasting relationship I've known between a man and a women requires difference, introduction and eventual purging of the toxins. There is toxicity in all of us and I think we need each other to purge those toxins, and all that is left is imperviousness omnigender. (haha, I'm sure it sounds better in my head)

Sometimes differences attract!

Though I'm attracted to feminine women, and I'm a feminine woman: I think it depends on the people in question. There are many possibilities.

Okay, since this is nearly a daily topic anyway, let's do this while trying to keep things civil in a dedicated thread.

What are your complaints about feminism, and why?

Someone placate the mods with cookies or something, I'm sure they're on edge. We'll play nice. :joycat:
Too many acronyms.

Attraction adds yet another dimension to the puzzle. One I didn't mention. I don't suggest that men and women need each other because they are attracted to each other. Nor can I say that opposites attract. The opposite of water is fire, yet I like the example of ice and water: like substances that repel each other yet if willing later convert to each others element. I only suggest that men and women are perfectly complimentary beings. The feminine ego and masculine ego that lets in the Social and self destruction, in my belief, require the somewhat 'toxic' counterparts to penetrate the ego of their opposing gender and make possible for future healing instead of toxins.
Attraction is a very precarious element that can be either divisive, or supportive. In my case, I am physically attracted to many different types of women (masculine and feminine). I can use that attraction to either create a toxic environment for me, or I can control it carefully it to guide me to the perfect individual I would want to spend my life with. Attraction might point me to the general direction, but ultimately it is not the defining factor for finding the one.
P.S. I don't think same sex attraction is any different. I just think attraction shouldn't be the final say on finding that someone who is going to help you 'remove your toxins'. I mean, for a girl even a father figure, could be enough. For a boy, a mother figure. It doesn't even have to enter the realm of physical attraction. Just saying.

I do have a great relationship with my dad ^.^ And he is the opposite of me in many ways. He is wiser, more patient, slow to anger (but also to action). I am headstrong, less wise, something of a hothead, but I have my good traits too.

None

Because feminism is defined as:
At its core, feminism is the belief in full social, economic, and political equality for women

So, at its core it's a belief, and like any belief I never complain about people's beliefs...all are free to think whatever they like

My complaints would be more about certain types of feminists rather than feminism itself, such as the ones who apparently believe paternity tests rob women of power or that space exploration is a product of toxic masculinity that spreads patriarchy.

What are your complaints about feminism, and why?
  • Complicated
  • Was simpler
  • too complicated
  • ivory tower conversations
  • terminology seems purposely confusing just to be extra confusing and perhaps keep people from understanding
  • Bait words like patriarchy and toxic masculinity do not help
  • Always being asked about feminism
  • Lots of discussions about feminism
  • Cannot figure out

That's... hard to respond to because I simply agree, haha.

I would defend the terminology's purpose and scope (without peppering in terminology as much as possible), but would you like that? I'm more than happy to explain why new terms are made in plain English if you would. Not an explanation like "this word means this," but an explanation of why we bother with complicated terms at all in general.

The more I study feminism, its ideologies, and its history, the more I think that in this modern day, that it's bad for society, and that pursuing gender equality without the baggage is better.

For instance, what ideologies? What history? Bad in what way? I opened this thread to dispel negative perceptions, to acknowledge there are ****ty feminists, to show that feminism isn't extreme by fiat.

You don't have to expound of course, but I'm just saying, that's why I opened the thread.

This Quora answer from a trans man sums my own thoughts up well:
