The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Movie Trailer)

Scuba Pete

Le plongeur avec attitude...
I saw the movie with my daughter (sans towels), and thouroughly enjoyed it!!! I think the nay sayers are guilty of making it more serious than it really is. Just what the book was against at that! :D Of course, I hadn't read the book since about the time my daugher was born (20 years ago).

You get frubals for the towel idea but I have to admit I too had read the book several years ago (and probably enjoyed it) but couldn't remember anything from it. So even though I thought the movie was fair, I really didn't have any recollection to compare to.

It seemed they had too much story to tell in such a short time?
Yes. It's like any movie based on a book these days. Plots and characters are often modified to fit time limitations or appeal to a wider audience ,often to the detriment of the authors original intent. The "WOW" factor of special effects are used to try and mask these deficiencies, but the more savey observer can see right through this.

I agree with your assesment of this treatment of THHGTTG, it was fair. In actuallity , the first book was penned as an afterthought of the original radio series, and subsiquent broadcasts and books often contradicted themselves to the point that following any coherrent story line or main idea between the two became secondary. It's just a bunch of cool stuff that's a lot of fun to read or listen to. And the brand of English humor in the original treatments is not well conveyed by the mediocre acting and script writing in this screenplay. I found some things lost in the translation for an American audience. The radio and television series were far superior in writing and performance IMO, even though the special effects were kinda cheesy, but that's what made it so effective(not taking itself too seriously).I'll take writing quality over visuals every time.:D

Adams is no longer with us, so who knows how he would have felt.I got the impression from some of his last interveiws and writings that he was getting tired of the whole thing.

Always said I was a geek.;)
