The Kemetic/Egyptian Pagan Thread

The Contendings are quite humorous at best, that part where Set tries to dominate Heru-sa-Aset, and then Aset tricks Set into eating Heru's sperm, LOL. Tell me the ancient Egyptians weren't creative with this stuff.

I'm not a Kemetic, but out of all the Pantheons of gods I seem to connect with them the most. Thoth was the first of the gods to make his appearance known to me(in the form of a Baboon no less), from my experiences he like to show you thing and let you figure them out(make you think). Set was the next god to appear, and I agree, he can do it in a way that can be intimidating(be the god of Storms and Desert). And for some reason Sekhmet took a liking to me and I listen(far be it from me to not listen to a goddess, let alone Sekhmet)^_^

Thoth appeared to you in his baboon form? Very interesting. He has only appeared to me in his ibis-headed form.

When you say "made an appearance", do you mean you actually physically saw these gods?

We can't literally see the gods physically in their entirity, if we did see them, we'd only be seeing a small part of something much bigger. That being said, yes I've seen them, mostly in dreams, but also in other ways.

This is yet another reason that one must believe the ancient texts. Who could possibly make a story like that up? Nowadays, maybe. Thousands of years ago though?

I dunno echanted. I don't want to start looking at the mythos as inspired scripture like the Abrahamics do with their books. One of the things I like about Kemetic belief system is how abstract and flexiable it is. That being said. My favorite part of the Contendings is when Set was in the council of the gods, and Djehuty said: "Come out semen of Heru." And the semen said: "Where should I come out?" Djehuty answered: "from his head." Then Heru's semen came out of Set's head in the form of a moon disc, LOL.

She is a fickle one, my Isis. The competition before the semen one, the two, Horus and Set, transformed themselves into hippos to see who could last the longest under water. While under, Isis speared Set (after having first speared Horus by accident), and then healed him when he came up for air... She makes me smile :D

I hope that as a Seeker, it is okay if I ask you all some questions - I'm absolutely facinated at the moment!

I love ancient Egyptian mythology but in college studies it was only ever presented in a way that would lead one to assume the religion was dead. To hear you speak of this religion not only still existing but having personal interactions with your dieties, is amazing. Please don't take offense to my initial reference to Kemeticism as mythology - that is the only way I've ever understood it and I feel another part of my mind has suddenly opened in reading this thread.

Would you please share your experiences with how you came to this belief? Were you seeking or did your god(s) seek you? What messages did you take away leading you to find solace and truth on this path?

For those of you who aren't familiar with myself (I'm very new to this site), I was brought up in a basic Christian home without any explanations for why we were to hold the beliefs we did. Never in all of my time have I had an experience of God, as a Christian or as a seeker, and am looking for that sort of personal relationship.

Whatever you are willing to share, I'd love to hear. Thanks!

Well, I can speak for myself, but keep in mind, there's a good chance you will get very different answers from all of us, as we all have difference experiences and outlooks and beliefs even.

So back to the questions at hand.

I've always been Kemetic. For as long as I can remember. Even before there was a name for it (well, a name for it, to my knowledge, I mean). As a child, I knew things about Ancient Egypt that no 8 year old should know. I could name the Gods off the top of my head, but had no idea how I knew the names of those Gods. A few years ago, I was having a discussion with my mother about Kemeticism, and she told me a story about when I was little, that I have no recollection of. She said I had an imaginary friend when I was very young and I had named her Isis. My mom thought it was a strange name and asked me where I'd heard it. I put my hands on my hip, with all the attitude of a youngling and said "Mommy, she's a gipsin god!"

Anyway, long story short, I think Isis has always been with me. I can't remember a time when she wasn't there, whispering in my ear, comforting me when I was sad, raging with me when I was angry, laughing with me when I was happy.

As for the message I've taken away... that's a little more difficult to answer. I think, like you said, solace, is the thing I've always felt. Isis is my best friend. She's my mother, my sister, my lover, my guardian, my shoulder to cry on, my crutch. My absolute world, and I've always known that, in some way, even before I could put it to words.

I hope that answers your questions. :)

Okay sunspash I'll try to answer you. I was seeking and they sook me. It was both. The gods don't ever interfere with a person's will, so they wouldn't seek you out, unless you had been seeking them. Likewise, I don't think a person could seek them if they weren't drawing a person all the time. As for me, I was very attracted to the Egyptian gods and the mythos as a child, but it wasn't much else besides a fascination then. I believe they were drawing me then. I learned about Kemetic Orthodoxy and the House of Netjer after experiencing both Christianity and Islam (Eastern Orthodox and Shi'a). I prayed to Netjer that if it was real, if the gods were real, to show themselves to me, so I could believe. Heru-sa-Aset (Horus the Younger) showed himself to me and remained with me some time, and then turned me over to his Uncle Set. Sometimes the gods stay with us a time and then back off after teaching us something. I've also gotten to know Djehuty (Thoth) whom I've actually seen in a dream. I've gotten close to Sekhmet, Aset, Wepwawet, Yinepu (Anubis), and Ihy.

How have you come to know them? I've never had this experience and am confused by it when Christians use this wording also. Is it through meditation and prayer - actually receiving messages that you know are separate from your own conscience?

Well one can meet them in many ways. Sometimes the weather, sometimes things in nature, sometimes animals, sometimes even by a word someone else speaks. You can meet them in dreams, or by meditating and prayer, yes. Yoga works well.

I myself am not a Kemetic, but the Egyptian gods/goddess have played a (big) roll in my path forging. My first experience was my sitting and Meditating and Thoth appeared to me, in this vision he looked fully real, I have really no way to explain it . Set I have felt the presences of but have never seen him, though I know what he looks like. Sekhmet though, not only have a seen her in Dreams and felt her presences during rituals, but she has been a teacher to me on and off for the last 3-4 years, giving me room when I need it. As of today she help me out with the crap going on at work. And thank Her greatly for it.
