My word what a huge site - may have mentioned it - 292 posts about caring -

In many ways, Hadley Jensen, from Cumming, Georgia, is just like any other 10-year-old girl. She likes to spend time with her friends. She occasionally fights with her siblings. She likes to eat candy and watch shows on Netflix. But there is one thing that makes Hadley unique: she is on a streak for good!

This is not the type of streak that would get Hadley in trouble. This manner of streaking is helping her to do good in the world. For 257 days and counting, Hadley has helped at least one person every day!

We sat down with Hadley the other day to ask her about her streak to help others. Here is what she shared with us:

Try - good life project kindness

Leon Logothetis went into the family business, filling his days brokering deals in the shipping industry. From the outside looking in, he had everything. But, from the inside looking out, he was dying a little bit more every day, fiercely lonely and falling apart.

So, he made a radical decision to walk away from the family business, away from the legacy that had been laid out before him to carve his own path. That led in first to travel across America without cash, sustaining himself only on the kindness of others.

This journey into the heart of kindness became a film and then led to a round-the-world kindness adventure on a motorcycle, but this time, the stakes were raised. Not only could he only live on the kindness of others, he also committed to giving back along the way. That journey became the basis of a book and then The Kindness Diaries series, which can now be seen on Netflix. And, Leon has a new book out called Go Be Kind, that is more of a daily journal of fun and easy ways to be kind.

How to help the homeless?

In September of 2007 Jon Linton began gathering imagery to document the homeless on the streets of Phoenix Arizona. That Fall he had volunteered both time and resources at a local homeless shelter to better understand the circumstance and plight of those without a place to call home. His project took shape, when the first man he photographed wept as he asked him his name. “You have no idea how long it has been since someone cared to ask my name”, he stated.

Through the course of this journey Jon has met many souls that through a bad set of circumstance, addiction or mental illness find themselves without a door to walk through at day’s end. They had fallen into what some had referred to as an “Invisible World". The I Have a Name Project is a humble attempt to bring dignity and humanity to those less fortunate among us.

Jon encourages you to go out and help another in need. He says your soul will thank you and reminds you to always practice compassion with these 10 tips that will help you better understand how you can help someone in need.

We have to cultivate contentment with what we have. We really don't need much. When you know this, the mind settles down. Cultivate generosity. Delight in giving. Learn to live lightly. In this way, we can begin to transform what is negative into what is positive. This is how we start to grow up.

A meditation on our common humanity -

This exercise draws on a guided meditation created by Sean Fargo, a former Buddhist monk and founder of Mindfulness Exercises.

We recommend listening to audio of this guided meditation in the player below; you can also listen at Mindfulness Exercises. We have included an adapted script of this meditation to help you follow it yourself or teach it to others. In brackets are the lengths of the pauses in the original guided meditation, to give you a sense of how much time to allot to each step.

Kindness is contagious

Gratitude is a state of mind, where you focus on the present and focus on your blessings in life. It’s a form of positive psychology. You can do this as a reflection or show appreciation to others through cards, small gestures, or a simple thank you.

You forget about the negatives in life and focus on silver linings that bring a smile to your face.

When you live your life this way, it’s contagious just like a virus. Only, you want this contagious feeling in your life. It’ll benefit your overall health, well-being, and happiness.

When you do something kind, others pick up on it and want to pay forward that heartfelt feeling. Fostering this cycle of altruism helps everyone by building trust, care, and compassion for each other. That’s just what you need during a difficult time, whether it’s the loss of a loved one, a cancer diagnosis, or the threat of a serious virus.

Why We Need More Kindness

Today, judging others seems to be an activity practiced by far too many people.

It’s all too easy to post comments about other people, whether they’re celebrities or ordinary, everyday citizens. Unkindness isn't new; humans have been cruel to each other for thousands of years. But today the ease, speed, and anonymity with which people can pass judgments and criticism onto others is unprecedented. Kids who are at the forefront of tech and social networking are learning from what they see around them.

Children also tend not to be able to see the bigger picture. Because young children usually focus on what's right in front of them and tend to not think too far ahead, they may not realize the full effects of what behaviors like meanness, exclusion, or bullying can have on other kids. And kids are naturally self-centered, which means that they aren’t always able to put themselves in someone else’s shoes or make a conscious effort to think about how someone else might feel. That does not mean, however, that kids are naturally unkind.

Best Children’s Books About Kindness

A while ago, my kids and I spent months putting together a list of the best children’s books about friendship, and parents wrote back with sweet notes of gratitude. But they also had another request: What are the best picture books about kindness?

And so my family set out on another months-long research project to find children’s books about kindness that both kids and parents will enjoy. (If kids are going to ask us to read it again and again, it may as well be something we’ll get a kick out of, too!)

Every week, I put 25 books on hold at the library, plus at every visit I browsed the shelves for even more picture books about kindness. All told, my kids and I read hundreds of picture books on the topic of kindness.
