What does supercede mean? I think it means I post last and win!

My 1985 era spell checker doesn't like "supercede".
Its been 'Supercede' ever since The Great Respelling.
I've been corrupted by my spell checker, BOS Writer.
It's not only old (1985), but it's British.
It tries to force me to.....
- Say "schedule" as "shedyule"
- Spell "color" as "coulour"
- Drink warm beer
I selected American English when I installed this OS, but it also tries to force me to spell grey as gray instead. Its like living with an uncle.
