Today has been rather odd. Communications in our village have been out. Internet... Gone. Landline... Gone. Mobile phones... Gone. Of course with everything gone it's impossible to contact service departments to ask how long the outage will last.

Life without talking to the outside world must have been just as it is in it's day. But now... It's really frightening to not be able to chat with family or friends. More of a problem is that you cannot get in touch to tell them you cannot get in touch. What are they thinking? How is brother in law coping?

After a couple of hours of forced isolation I did drive 20km to find a working mobile cell. Made several frantic phonecalls explaining the situation.

We did manage to get a few chores done that have been on the back burner for a month or few. So i count that as a win.

And at 17:30 everything burst back in to life?

Our life is saved, we are in touch with the world again. What a wonderful winner

Christine, racing in circles won't get you anywhere...However,coming or going you still are a WINNER!

The Nurburgring is not precisely a circle. You won't understand this but unlike America tracks there are both left and right hand bends

Well it is rather late morning now. I had a breakfast of blueberry pancakes.

Not American pancakes???
And we just had dinner of nems, samosas, pork bits, chips (fries), sweet chilli sauce. Bit of an international hotchpotch but very tasty.

Followed by eclairs, you may guess, mine was coffee

All pancakes are "American pancakes". If I feel fancy I have cooked up some "French pancakes":D You know, those creepy things. I will have some fruit sauces, sour cream, and maple syrup with them. I like Norwegian-French crepes. That is when the fruit of choice is lingonberry preserves.

Pancakes are an ancient greek invention, long before America was even thought of.
French crepes are usually (not always) spread with nutella. Though i prefer the ones flambé in grand marnier with chantilly.
And also, for breakfast, dripping with home made strawberry compote

Crepes win but adding nutella turns them into a mega-loss.

So crepes are a recent recipe?

And using Grand Marnier for a flambe'? Never! Snifter Glass. And maybe some hot black coffee on the side to occasionally clear the palate.

Nutella is actually pretty damn good. If you like palm oil.
A hot crepe with nutella, served at market on a frosty winter's morning sure beats the hell out of popping into a McDonald's for a tasteless burger.

That's damning with half praise as they say.

Lemon and sugar were the traditional simple filling used in sweet crepes. Now, you’ll find them with an amazing array of fillings. Nut spreads, jams and preserves, berries, nuts, cream cheese, whipped cream, ice cream, salted caramel, and poached pears drizzled with dark chocolate are all popular fillings. At OPH, we particularly like fresh strawberries or sliced bananas with a warm pecan praline sauce. Yum!

You obviously have never eaten a good crepe?

Grand Marnier is really good for flambé,. The alcohol in the cognac burns off leaning the angels share with orange. Yum.

Edit crêpes are similar to English pancakes but using more milk to create a thinner pancake

Nutella is just chocolate diluted with a flavorless nut.
Why add bland to something glorious?
The best pancakes are Chinese scallion pancakes.
Close behind are Ameristanian blueberry/blackberry pancakes.
