Nope.

The expression 8.999.... *means* the thing that is approximated by 8.9, 8.99, 8.999. 8.9999, etc. That thing is 9, so

The expression is 8.999. approximated yes, precisely no

There is no way to put an infinite number of 0s after the decimal place and before a 1.

There must also be no way to put an infinite number of 9s

Nope. it is exact.

An approximation (your words)

Nope. The difference is exactly 0.

How can 9 - 8.999. equal 0?

We had rain this morning, second time in a week...

Second time in 3 months so not sick of it... We welcomed it in fact

We had 3 days of sun. So I planted a heaps of seeds then 58mm since midnight and the garden is under water

I beg to disagree. Or really I'm not begging at all. 8.999. is infinitely close to 9 without being exactly nine.

Shall we debate Zeno's paradox? ;):D:eek:

The infinite decimal is the limit of the finite decimals. That limit is 9.

This was my first, Sega Sc-3000, wasted a lot of time typing in programs then debugging them.
