What I'm seeing reminds me of sharks. The king shark is more and more obviously injured. The other sharks start circling testing the king and hoping for an easy meal darting in to try to get a bite in and dashing away just in case there's fight left.
Can the feeding frenzy be long delayed?

All I will say is.....the Hudson river is mighty close to my office
I've seen the Hudson. It didn't look too bad, but I've heard it's had a grim history: Pollution of the Hudson River - Wikipedia
They warn people to not eat the fish of the Hudson.
