Those are Martian sand dunes. Lower air pressure and lower gravity may account for their incredibly alien appearance.

The power company was wrong wrong and again wrong. But I'm not complaining as the power was restored much much earlier than they said.Power outage not winning. UPS has an hour of power (heh) left but outage is scheduled to last 3 hours per the power company
Even unsquoosed, it's very impressive...Oh rats! Further Googling told me that the image I posted was squooshed. That is the picture was shortened on a horizontal scale. As we all know from stepping on insects, whether accidentally or on purpose a vertical shortened object is squashed.

Still pretty weird. We do not tend to have two different sizes of ripples on dunes here.
