I run a version of BOS that's ported to run under DOS.
BOS is a stand alone operating system that's "portable".
When running under DOS, it can access USB drives.
But my version can't run under anything later than
Windows 98, which is the last Windows op sys that
uses a DOS kernel. Simulated DOS environments
in later operating systems aren't compatible.

DOS is a slower environment than BOS in native
mode, but in the 1990s, computers became so
fast that this penalty disappeared.

I assume sooner or later there will be no antique hardware available to run your BOD/DOS software.

That's why I buy up old DOS boxes.
I just retired my big'n.
It was 25 years old, but needed some repairs.
Not worth doing, since I no longer needed
8 extra serial ports, dual hard drives, a Zip
drive, or CD drive.
