So, I have a friend who's intersex. She has a penis and testis, but she also has a uterus and experiences monthly pain via her period. Growing up, she was raised as a boy, but as she got older, she started to fill out her shape in more of a female form. She has breasts and everything else associated with her sex now. After she went through puberty and saw what was happening, she changed her legal name, though now she is considered (legally) trans because of this. She can't join the military because of that.
Now, when she was younger, she always felt that she was female. Turns out her body finally caught up with her in those regards. She's told me that she got blood test when she was questioning these changes, and what she found was that she had one X chromosome, and one that wasn't quite an X and wasn't quite a Y. It was different.
What would you say in her case? She hasn't had any invasive surgery done to remove or change out any bits, so everything is still the way it was before in those regards. Is she mentally ill and delusional? If not, what makes her case different? Should I call her "it" instead, since she has both parts, or am I right in referring to her the way she prefers?
