Give me one shred of evidence that modern marriages are more sucessful than the old way of doing things correctly as the Bible teaches.

Give me One shred of evidence that marriages were more "succesful" by the old way of doing things correctly as the Bible teaches...

What is your definition of "successful" by the way...

If women are the spiritual equals of men, how come female religious leaders don't wear the same funny hats male religious wear? Eh? Huh?

Checkmate.

Less divorces? Unless you think getting a divorce is somehow equated with sucess.

Staying with someone for decades would indicate a sucessful relationship I would think. Let's spin things for a moment. Perhaps marriage is as outdated as religion. Many people look at marriage like they own the other person.

I would say that if I was to use the same argument against religion that has been presented in this thread and applied it to the current state of most marriages, it would prevail equally.

Kathryn

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
I just don't buy the notion that overall women are better off, happier, more fulfilled, and less oppressed than they were in the past. I'm not saying that the past was idyllic, or that we should repeal womens' right to vote or to be treated equally on the job. But our lives are more hectic than ever - and now most women have TWO full time jobs instead of just one - a career that demands 40 hours a week minimum AND a household. Running a house well, with kids and a husband, is a full time job in itself.

No I would not..When one gender (the female) was at a HUGE disatvantage if divorce happened..

Thats not what I call "succesfull"...

Do you believe the man is, must be, or ought to be the 'spiritual head' of the family?

Why or why not?

Yes, if the man is in fact right with the Lord spiritually....despite that Biblically speaking it is suposed to be that way no matter what, so, yes I feel the man should be the spiritual head of the house and all deissions should go through him unless otherwise arranged between the man and whichever member he stated otherwise to. A family should run like a well oiled machine but much has taken from the male status and turned things all out of whack..that is why there is less order now in so many areas of life...kids don't know who should be 'boss' so they try to be and everything is all out of kilter.

I have been married for 38 years...would I call it sucessful..well..perhaps a learning experience that lead to finally being with one person so long that it has become comfortable, reliable, but I gotta tell you there were times when I searched scripture for a reason I could get a divorce...my marriage was definately not equally yolked.:)

I noticed you included "kids and husband" in one breath..A husband isnt a "kid"...He souldnt be in the category as one...

Also a husband is FULLY capable of sharing in the running of a "household".As well as working..Same as a woman is..

No sometimes a man can act like a kid in ANYONES perspective..So I dont "wonder"..I know...he is NO more QUALIFIED to be a leader than anyone else..in a family..just because he is a dude..

You either are or you arent..(a leader) and same goes with the females..

OH!///and its not surprising to me...The women who are "pro male head"..Only are so because they dont want another child to take care of...Even though on some level you have to do that anyway in order to have a "man" around ...

Hmm...How quizzical...

Marriage isn't a 50/50 proposition. In my marriage, we both have our "areas of expertise." My husband may be "President" but I am a strong "Vice President."

Interesting how you put that,

It's about responsibility, Not power or governance. husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to help eachother as equals in caring for and tending to thier family.

however,

Yes, the Father and Husband is at the head of the family, But he is also responsible for alot more than you would think.

Overall, I think it's cowardly and ignorant to think one can determine values for everyone else based on one's own preferences and the dictates of some mythology gone horribly awry. What works for you doesn't necessarily work for someone else. The better approach is to listen, learn and shut the flunk up.

And vice-versa.

My husband brought me a sammich one time..And it had a beautiful sahpire ring right on the plate next to the sammich.

He must have thought I was a great spirtual partner and provider as well.
