The Monopoly of Religious Believers

monti

Member
Some but not all religious people believe they have a monopoly on some good quality because it feels good and appeals to a sort of tribalism. "Only good/smart/happy people are part of my group if you're not a part of it you can't be good/smart/happy."
Indeed, and the atheist can go all the way to hell, I suppose.:D

Atheist can go where ever they want, their not under the thumb of any so called god.

I am sure a theist will give you an argument there. You see, whether or not I have a god I will still go to the flames if;
(1) I do not do his bidding.
(2) I do not believe in him.
(3) I believe in him but can't stand what an hypocritical tyrannical driven psychopath he really is.

Say no more, he is if he was true a tyrannical driven psychopath, but no worries, he doesn't exist, so enjoy your life.

Hell has all of the best rock stars from History. Heaven only has Cliff Richard and Creed. I know where I'd like to end up.

Why is it that the religious believer believes they have the monopoly on being the only people who can be kind and benevolent to others?

I am late to this, I don't have time to read the entire thread. I don't recall very many religious believers believing they have some kind of monopoly on being kind. Probably less than .01% of them, probably, if I had to give it a number.

The faithful who believe they have a monopoly on benevolence
are like the atheists who think they have a monopoly on logic.
Some people just be too full'o themselves.

There is some truth to this, I think.
People do have a tendency to go nuts with the generalization brush at times.

There are religions who believe their the chosen people of god, there are those who believe all others are dogs, and there are those who believe that all others are infidels, they all believe they have the monopoly on going to heaven, and my question is, who on earth would want to be living their life for eternity with people like that ?.

I wouldn't. Yuck.

All religions contain both truth and falsehood.

That is an excellent point. I believe for instance that, the bible (particularly the Old Testament) is a brilliant book of early human history. The New Testament is also a decent book, but it has no doubt been redacted, expunged and doctored to appeal to certain audiences thereby, completely changing its historicity. This is why in my opinion one (if interested) has to look outside of the bible (extra biblical) to try and find missing pieces, that could also be just as unreliable when placed into position.
So when you say:
All religions contain both truth and falsehood.
You are, in my opinion, absolutely correct, nazz.

All religions contain both truth and falsehood.
Unfortunately, what truth they contain is generally very trivial, and not a unique truth to religion, whereas the falsehoods generally constitute most of their core doctrines and teachings. Unfortunately, for a system of thought claiming universality, divine mandate, and/or enlightenment, containing any substantial degree of falsehood is like an onion that is partly rotted; a partly rotten onion is a just a rotten onion, and similarly, a partly false religion is just a false religion.

No, not at all. What I mean is that religious believers (those who have a god) believe they some how have the monopoly on benevolence and don't seem to even believe that someone who is an atheist has any moral standing or ethics on how to behave towards others or conduct themselves in an ethical manner without a god. Example; anyone who disbelieves is an infidel or Goy an unclean heathen etc , and doesn't deserve life.

Sorry I'm late to the party. Just wanted to clarify a common misconception that is also made here. The word Goy is not a Yiddishe word for an unclean heathen or some other nonsense. Its Hebrew for "nation." Colloquially, it means someone from one of the other nations. But the word itself is even used in Scriptures in reference to Israel.
