The most ANNOYING misconception about YOUR faith?

That it might be something evil, or dangerous.

Words like Sourcery, Occult, LHP, Self Deification, Chaos Magick, Setianism,
Witchery, and even discordianism ...
do not usually conjure positive thoughts and images in people.
As well, my brand of "faith" is more a "suspension of disbelief".

Is it any wonder I keep my deeper Self, to mySelf?

But people .. .they want to know what you "are".
I still after all this time, have no idea what to tell them.
My religion is "individualism". "Self BEcoming". Magick. *sigh*. why bother.

If I say I'm a Pagan people automatically assume I mean "Wiccan".

If I say Luciferian people assume I'm a conspiracy theorist.

If I say "I don't follow any set religion" people assume I'm an atheist. (actually, until I explain my beliefs in quite a bit of detail people usually call me a "treehugger atheist")

Most people have never even heard of Jainism. Also, most westerners think you can only follow one religion at a time.

Hinduism:
That we are polytheistic
That our deities are really demons
That our deities were invented by humans
That we don't care about people and don't enjoy posessions
That if we do care about people and posessions we aren't "unattached"
That we are New Age cult (we are actually the OLDEST organized religion)
That we all practice untouchability
That we still burn widows
That we believe Enlightenment means nonexistence

LDS:
That all non-LDS go to hell
That we try to convert people against their will
That we are sexist
That we are all conservative
That we hate gays
That we believe women and non-whites don't have souls

Jain:
That we value insect life more than human life
That asceticism is masochism
That we engage in asceticism just to punish ourselves
That all Jains are ascetics
That we are vegans
That we are all fruitarians
That we are atheistic
That we equate Mahavira with a Creator God
That we are a sect of Buddhism

Baha'i:
That we convert children against their parent's will
That we are a Persian religion
That we worship Baha'u'llah
That the Bab was a prophet
That we believe covenant breakers go to hell
