This is Koga, the newest addition to our clan.

He is an Anatolian Shepherd who is about 20 weeks old.

I think he's going to fit in just fine with the 4 kids, the German Shepherd Dog, the 3 Pug mixes, 2 cats, and 4 fish just fine.

I agree. The dogs are mine.

Everything else (cats, fish, kids) are my wife's.;)

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Very cute - and he has an intelligent expression. Good luck and congrats!

Thanks!

He's integrating well so far. Lots of butt-sniffing and play bowing going on. Played with the cat all night long after the GSD claimed his bed. It's a big change for him; his last home was a couple in a small apartment who both worked full-time. Now he has a full yard and plenty of family to keep him company.

Now we just need to make a vet appointment and get him up to date on all his shots and a good once-over.

If he a full Anatolian? My in-laws are on their second Anatolian. He's 205lbs now! Their other one wasn't quite that big.

I doubt he's full-blooded. He isn't papered, and we only have what the previous owners told us. If he isn't, though, he's pretty close. The build and growth rate so far are right, but he doesn't have any trace of the black mask.

They gave us the wrong age though; he is just now losing his baby teeth and getting his permanent set. That should put him right around 4+ months, and he's right at 50 pounds.

I hoping he's good size; I like to have large breed dogs around the house. We have a GSD now, but he's getting up there in age and has bad hips. We were going to find a breeder for another German Shepard, but we came across the listing for Koga. I got the impression the couple had no clue about the breed and took him to a tiny apartment to live. When he started to show the traits of his breed, they freaked and were going to take him to the pound.

Koga is fine, but we got some bittersweet news about Shep, our GSD, today.
We took him to the vet Monday because he's been having a lot of issues walking and tripping. We were afraid that his hips had finally reached the point that he would have to be put to sleep.

They cleaned him up and found an ear infection which the vet said was most likely accounting for a large part of the issue, but he kept him for the day to watch him walk. We left that morning with the vet telling us that he was in great shape for an 11 yo GSD, and would likely see a couple of years with him.

The prognosis wasn't quite so good that afternoon when we called. Apparently the ear infection wasn't quite the factor he had initially thought, and they wanted to keep him overnight.

The vet took x-rays this morning and ran tests to check liver and kidney function, and the prognisis took another turn for the worse. While his internals are fine, the x-rays showed that hips are quite deteriorated. Shep's still mobile, and we have pain meds to help him through, but we're only looking at another six months or so.

It's a sad day. Shep, our 11 year-old German Shepherd Dog, passed away this morning.

We'll miss you, old man.

Please accept my condolence for the loss of your dog.

I never had my own pet but I have lived with my family's pets of course. I understand the love they show, even to me, so I understand the hurt when they are hurt or if they die.

Cute dog in the OP.

Sorry to hear about your GSD.

I have a year old male rottweiler who is my best friend ever, all he wants is to do is be close by, I am thinking of adopting another dog to keep him company, preferably a larger breed so they can play safe, I saw a listing for an 11 month old female great dane for adoption, only if the old lady would return my calls :(

Very sorry to hear about your beloved Shep, dear Tarheeler.

Animals have souls, as we do, and are on their own evolutionary path.

Animals that have felt and experienced the warmth of human love and companionship attain individuality, which they retain after death.

When your 'time' comes all those you have loved and who have loved you (who have passed over) will be there to greet you, both people and pets. So, you've not seen the last of dear old Shep. Take heart at that.

'Horses and dogs were playing together and when they stopped they seemed to stare a hole right through me and then went back to playing. I was told they were checking to see if I was the person they were waiting for that had loved them while on earth'
