The power of a clique

People can easily live alone. The problem is they depend on others to give them happiness and/or provide for them. Anyone is capable of both alone.

To an extent. One can survive alone. But surviving isn't always living. There are certain introverted folks who can get by, or even thrive, alone. But if an introvert needs time alone to 'recharge', an extrovert needs time with others to 'recharge'.

From my experiences, it got worse out of school because being grown up brought on more cliques

That's what I found, too. :( And pickier ones, too.

Or maybe I was just fortunate enough to have tolerant friends in high school.

Do you have loyalty to strangers who may share your goals?
Maybe? "Loyalty" implies a degree of commonality that goes beyond simply having a similarity of opinions, to me, so we would have to work towards a common goal together for me to consider myself "loyal" to them.

Generally, I reserve loyalty for friends and people I know.

You know how to grow your own food, make your own house, clothes, provide medical care for yourself and all the other things required for living by yourself? I would like to call bull**** on that. I doubt you can fix plumbing let alone build yourself a latrine that would not poison you in your sleep after a few months of usage. You will depend on others for that. You will require that little thing call "society" to keep you living. The same goes for happiness. Without prolonged human contact chances are you will lose your sanity fairly quickly. Hell a couple of weeks in an isolation cell is enough to break people and is widely considered torture. You might not need a huge social circle filled with close friends, family and lovers, but human contact is pretty much necessary to live. Hermits and recluse have a long tradition of insanity and early death. That's why many were recluse and hermit in the first place after all.

Lol. Just because you can't don't think others can't.
Fact is I designed and built my home.
I can do electric, plumbing, carpentry or whatever.
I am certified in CPR, ACLS, and PALS among a few other things.
I have a 3 acre garden where I grow potatoes, corn, tomatoes, beans, etc and I can what extra I have.
I raise and butcher my own beef, pork and chicken. Plus all the free eggs
Not to mention hunting providing meat from deer, turkey, rabbit, squirrel, hog, etc
Not to mention fishing providing meat from bass, crappie, catfish, trout, etc.
My wife can make clothes but like most we buy them.
I could go on but there is no point when you think others can't do for themselves simply because you can't.

And if bet you never served in the military let alone fought in a war.

I'm not meaning to doubt you here, but am strictly curious... Have you the means to create cloth? Sewing is a handy skill, but its not every day you meet someone who can make cloth.

Or dishes/cookware for that matter. Though I guess one technically wouldn't need that....

Yeah, I saw that. I was just curious if either of you had the skill of cloth making. So few do.

I used to ponder a lot when I was a kid on what it would take to be entirely self sufficient. I could come up with ways to provide for most everything(in my mind), but it came to my attention that making cloth for clothing would be very difficult. Or kitchenware/metalwork. Or creating glass/screen for windows.

Just my own musings...

Indeed. That's why I rely on others to provide me safety. I have no wish nor natural aptitude for combat thus, I need the help of others who do. It makes me quite happy to know that there are people out there who have the desire and the aptitude to defend me on the sole basis that I so happen to belong to their group.

Here's a free piece of advice... Just because you don't or cant, don't think others don't or cant either. Its the people that can and do that keep the world going.

Neither can you apparently. You can make your own clothes so you would rely on your wife to make them. Unless your wife so happen to be also you, it seems you rely on others to live, especially since you buy your own clothes. You also aren't a blacksmith capable of building your own tools it seems. That would probably make you incapable of building most things. Nor a miner capable of extracting and purifying the ore necessary for them and I doubt you fell and carved the timber to build your own house.

I could go on to point out that, despite your impressive sets of skills, you still can't and don't live alone, but I think reality starts to set in. No matter how highly skilled you are, you will never be able to live completely alone.

That's precisely my point. There are many things you need and you can't or won't do them. Thus, you need others to keep your personal little world going let alone that of the few billions other people. You can't live alone and you don't live alone and your happiness and continued survival is dependent on others. If tomorrow a large stretch of society was to vanish in thin air so could your happiness.

Lol. Just because I didn't list several things you think I can't or don't do
I retired from my job, have had two hand surgries, lost two fingers, had two elbow surgries, a knee surgery, a wrist surgery, a shoulder surgery, have a piece of mesh in my stomache the size of a dinner plate, a back surgery, lost a kiddney, have 3 plates in my neck from surgery, etc and I still farm my own land, grow my own food, raise my own meat, run my horse ranch all without whining, complaining and *****ing.
Just because you don't and can't don't think others are like you. Honestly take your negativity elsewhere.

Oh so you self operated yourself now and build the hospital to I guess? Why quote all the help you received to live a better fully functioning life and then claim you can do it all alone. Considering the number of surgeries you had, without advanced medical care, it sort of feels like you would have ended up crippled or dead

What's so negative about saying your lifestyle and your happiness relies on others? It's not like the "others" in the equation are going to disappear in thin air any time soon.

If others like you didn't rely on me to keep you safe I wouldn't have had any surgeries. But it is what it is. There are us that do and others that don't do anything but complain.

Sounds like you do have "clique" after all... and you are also complaining a lot about a murky group of "others" that are defined by "doing nothing, but complain". If that makes you happy so be it, but don't spit on all the work from others to build your own happiness. Plus, your wife might be offended by the idea you could ditch her like an old sock and remain just as happy. That's not very romantic ;p

So you depend on your wife then? I suppose you could always go naked, but who would you talk to (if you had no WiFi)?

No man is an island, my friend. Even Robinson Crusoe felt the need for human company.
