This rhetoric unfortunately fails on the same basis as the OP.
While I agree, and think there is research to support the idea about conservatives more likely believing stories that confirm bias and disbelieving stories that challenge bias (another sort of emotional guided behavior), we, ultimately, must face up to the fact that the entire political spectrum caters to our emotions. This is simply how the game is played.
One needn't look far on either side to see emotional appeals saturate content. They are selling propaganda, but worse still we want to buy it.
